How GOP Can Pull Off an Upset in Minnesota
RealClear Politics ^ | August 19, 2026 | Matt Cookson

President Trump loves flexing his political muscle, especially in Republican primaries. When businessman and TV personality Mike Lindell secured Trump’s endorsement in the Minnesota governor’s race, he thought the nomination was his. Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth had other plans, winning a crushing victory over Lindell. If Demuth plays her cards right, she may just have a chance of becoming governor.

Going into primary day, there were reasons to believe Mike Lindell had the advantage over Lisa Demuth. For starters, many polls showed Lindell ahead. The more glaring advantage was that Lindell received the critical endorsement from President Trump. With some exceptions, Trump’s endorsement is a huge advantage in any Republican primary.

Yet when the smoke cleared on August 11, it was Lisa Demuth, not Lindell, walking away as the Republican nominee for Minnesota governor. She beat Lindell by more than 40,000 votes and 11 points.

At this point the GOP will be lucky if they can pull off “upset” victories in the Ohio and Florida Governor’s races after choosing two unbelievably unqualified DEI candidates.

Who the hell thinks Amy Klobuchar is a “moderate”? Nobody except someone from the DSA or the legacy media.

I think the author said Klobuchar is perceived as a moderate in Minnesota...

“How GOP Can Pull Off an Upset in Minnesota”
There is only one way, voter ID, no mail in ballots, no 30 days of voting.
The DFL has the election fraud game perfected, under current procedures.
There is no way Kloberhammer will be defeated, even though, she’s repulsive, dumb as a stump, and ugly.
Tafoya is a far better candidate than the radical communist Flanagan, but again, the fraud will prove the winner.

No Republican has any chance against Klobuchar. Sure, Demuth will do better than Lindell would have, but that means she might get 43% of the vote instead of 36%.

Tafoya (R) may make it interesting against the fanatical lunatic Peggy Flanagan (Communist), but no Republican is winning statewide in Minnesota anytime soon (go back — way back — and see when the last time was that one did) and certainly not in 2026.

It would be great if the GOP could pick up just 1 or 2 seats in the state House and Senate because that would be enough to take (nominal) control. But the probability of that is quite low this year. It’s fairly amazing that Republicans are as close to control as they are right now in the MN legislature; they almost certainly won’t be as close after November.

But if ANY upset in Minnesota is even the least bit plausible, it’s that one and not Governor, Senator or any other statewide office.

How to win? Make mail in ballots void.

Lindell was a well known face on TV.
Tafoya had the ground game that drives turnout.

In both MN and every race in Nov it’s all about turnout.
