As the USS George Washington aircraft carrier heads to the Middle East, expected to relieve sailors and Marines on the USS Abraham Lincoln, fresh scrutiny has fallen on living conditions aboard U.S. Navy ships—especially as the move will leave the U.S. without a single carrier deployed in Asia to stare down China.
U.S. lawmakers have demanded answers about conditions on the Lincoln, after family members and text messages purportedly sent by those on board detailed plumbing problems, dipped morale, unreliable water supplies and food shortages.
The carrier has spent more than 200 days at sea without a port call and was scheduled to return to its home port of San Diego in May. But it was redirected from the Pacific to the Middle East ahead of the start of the Iran war on February 28, and its deployment has been repeatedly extended.

A typical operational deployment for the PLAN is two weeks, with 40 days at sea a record lol
Only 3 or 4 of their ships has been more than a thousand miles from home.
Even the cranes at Newport News came from China. Anyone who thinks our industry is waking up has succumbed to propaganda.
At the risk of using a naval metaphor, keep in mind how long it takes to turn a ship from 180 degrees to 000.
By the way, those rough waters ahead are rougher than they look.
I can turn my canoe around right smartly! ;-D
Row well and live 41
Having two tours under my belt, the best thing that happened
was running out of hawaiian punch at the ship commissary.
I’M SHOCKED THAT ANYONE IN THE SERVICE WOULD COMPLAIN ABOUT ANYTHING. TDS AT ITS FINEST.
Have a source for that?
The 315-metric-ton Goliath gantry crane is a massive heavy-lift crane installed at Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia to support the Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) of nuclear aircraft carriers. Designed and manufactured by Kocks Crane in Bremen, Germany, the crane arrived in March 2018 and replaced the facility's previous 49-year-old green crane.
Red China's navy is NOT ready for prime time.
And the last time their army saw serious action they got their butts whipped by Vietnam.
Paid “sea duty”, complainers should refund that bonus...
“Anyone who thinks our industry is waking up has succumbed to propaganda.”
Agreed.
That’s why POTUS will allow Japan and others to build a batch of Frigates.
Our lack of shipbuilding capacity is a very serious National Security issue.

The WWII and Vietnam guys must love seeing that sort of thing described.

The USA signed an agreement worth hundreds of billions with the Koreans last year to have them partner with the USA to build US port facilities for ship building .

I interviewed with Bath Iron Works in Maine. I laughed out loud when they told me the pay and asked if he was joking. Needless to say I didn’t pack up and move cross country for a low paying defense job. I don’t know where that money goes but it sure wasn’t the workforce.

More like apples to grans of sand. China’s fleet conditions are almost unknown and wha we do know is filtered through state media and vetted by the CCP.
I would assume a Chinese sailor just gets tossed over board with ‘two in the hat’ for complaining and not a front page interview with CNN.
