Talarico’s Gender Mutilation Record Comes Under Fire in Texas Senate Race
Texas Scorecard ^ | 8/12/2026 | Brandon Waltens

Democrat U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico now says he does not support gender mutilation surgery for minors—but when Texas lawmakers voted to prohibit the procedures, Talarico voted no.

Talarico voted against Senate Bill 14, legislation prohibiting physicians from performing gender-mutilation surgeries on minors as well as prescribing sterilizing puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for the purpose of changing a child’s biological sex. The measure was ultimately approved by the Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott.

Talarico’s legislative record also includes another vote involving insurance coverage for gender-mutilation procedures and the consequences of those treatments. In 2025, Talarico voted against Senate Bill 1257, which requires health plans that cover gender-mutilation procedures to also cover adverse effects and follow-up care. That includes short- and long-term side effects, health monitoring, and treatment necessary to “manage, reverse, reconstruct from, or recover from” a gender-mutilation procedure.

Talarico’s vote against the legislation is receiving new relevance following his Republican opponent Attorney General Ken Paxton’s landmark settlement with Texas Children’s Hospital over allegations involving gender-transition treatments and Medicaid.

The case originated from allegations that Texas Children’s knowingly submitted false claims to Medicaid by prescribing puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and other gender-transition treatments to minors despite Texas Medicaid policies excluding the procedures from coverage.

Under the settlement, Texas Children’s will pay $10 million, with more than $8.5 million going to the state of Texas.

The hospital is also required to establish the nation’s first free, full-service detransition clinic.

Additionally, Texas Children’s must permanently terminate the privileges of several physicians and amend its bylaws to provide for the loss of clinical privileges for staff who perform gender-mutilation procedures.

“James Talarico has refused to take responsibility for his record. He supported and voted for the mutilation of children, then voted against requiring insurance companies to cover procedures that reverse the damage done by rogue doctors,” Paxton campaign Spokeswoman Madison Cercy told Texas Scorecard.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

You must see this ad where a girl is depicted preparing to undergo a gender-mutilation procedure with Talarico portrayed as the doctor.

The original “Daisy” ad, aired during Johnson’s presidential campaign against Republican Barry Goldwater, depicted a young girl counting the petals of a flower before transitioning into a nuclear countdown and explosion. I am old enough to remember this ad. If Goldwater had won, America would be better off today.

Won't stop the dems from calling it unfair.

He’s self-mutilated.

Hell in a hand basket. I seem to remember a time that these delusions and those that think they are another sex were regarded as creeps. How did we normalize creepiness?

We're about at the horrifying point in our societal decay that such news doesn't bother many, many voters.

There’s a two-part answer to that question. P.T. Barnum said There’s no such thing as bad publicity. Elections usually come down to name recognition, not policy stances. What has Paxton done or said to get his name in front of the voters? Cheating on his wife is obviously not enough. I forget what the second part is. It’ll come to me.

Ken Paxton ad:

This ad deserves its own thread 🧵🧵🧵

There are a lot of Talarico signs on my street here in Austin. I’m guessing there are Paxyon supporters here as well however advertising that would subject the houses to vandalism by the tolerant left. Hopefully, the polls are wrong. Talarico is an anti-Christian, anti science nut job.

I remember a reporter asking him to address the first pressing issue that he wanted to talk about.

“I’m want to talk about the trans kids!” he said immediately.

So what’s going on through his head when that is the first thing to come to mind?

Husband and wife disputes can be difficult to judge. Outsiders who take one side or the other almost certainly did not witness every act and statement made by either party. Maybe Ken Paxton is more to blame. Maybe determining blame is a fool's errand.

I am convinced that Talarico is a phony or lunatic or both.

“It seems every week a new election killer comes about this guy. The question is does any of this come to the attention of the half listening middle who decide elections ever see this stuff.”

That all depends on money - money which the RNC has NO INTEREST in giving to Paxton.

On the other had, the ONLY way to defeat a radical hiding as a ‘moderate’ is to go negative, the more the better - Bush Sr. did that in 1988 against The Loser - the reason why was that the country literally thought The Loser was MORE CONSERVATIVE than Bush. And while Bush himself likely couldn’t stoop to that level, he did have a secret weapon, Lee Atwater, managing his campaign, and Lee dragged him into the mud, which is why he won that year (Lee died during Bush’s term and Bush was then clueless without him, losing to Clinton).

So we must ask ourselves, would Cornyn have gotten into the mud like Paxton? Actually, we don’t need to ask, especially with Cornyn hanging out with Talcredo today.
