The latest Canadian census was far less intrusive than historical censuses... Census records from 1911, 1921 and 1931 record your job, your religion and even how much money you made.
The latest census recorded the following.
Names and contact info: Phone number, email, and names of household members.
Household relationship: How household members are related to one another.
Age and date of birth.
Sex and gender.
Language: Languages spoken at home and knowledge of official languages.
Only 25% of Canadian’s needed to fill out a long form census with about 60 questions.
Census info in Canada is typically recorded in the first year of the decade... 2021 for instance. I think this particular census being held in 2026 was trying to determine how many people in Canada can speak either English or French... There are a ton of immigrants who can’t speak either... And most of them are the ones likely being visited for not filling out the census... Because they can’t speak any official language.

The last census I barely completed in the US asked completely intrusive questions that seemed more like a demographics/fishing expedition. They wanted to know how many bathrooms, how many bedrooms, of course how many people etc. I filled out nothing except how many people lived at my house. I got knocked on my door for a couple of months, a few letters and finally told one census person when I finally answered the door that I already filled it out but if they didn’t like my answers that’s not my problem
The Aussies have mandatory voting too so it kinda fits.
For some reason, I got a Nancy Palosi questionnaire a few years back. I completed it saying I was a divorced black woman in Long Beach with two kids, an MBA, and working as a management consultant. For years I enjoyed answering emails with responses I am sure they considered outrageous. I would complete the census with the same attention to accuracy.

I didnt send in the last census. I feel the information is abused and corrupted. I ignored all mail regarding the census. The many calls from the census bureau and every door knock that came with it…. Ignore. I ended up with my own government stalker- Sylvia. I won lol.

That happened to me also. I filled it out with answers I thought were pertinent and not invasive. For 3 months or so a census person kept knocking on the door, hanging around outside, and asked my neighbors to get me to come out. Nope, completely avoided him and while in the back yard loudly told my neighbors that the census guy could go to hell. This isn't commie North Korea (yet).
