WASHINGTON (AP) — Senators headed for the exits in the predawn hours Saturday, ending for now a crushing standoff over President Donald Trump’s demands that they stay in session to pass a strict proof-of-citizenship voting bill before the summer recess.
While they wrapped up many key priorities in the overnight votes, advancing Trump’s SAVE America Act was not among them.
Instead, Republican senators who had brought the chamber to a standstill spoke to Trump late in the evening about an alternative plan: They would try again to approve elements of the voting bill as part of a broader GOP budget package to fund the Iran war and replenish the Pentagon when they return to work in September.

YES! I do NOT want SAVE now! It would dissipate the move afoot for the real plan to unfold. In hind sight, I say SAVE was always doomed.
Even if they passed it this afternoon, it'd be useless: It might fix voter rolls that have already selected many tainted candidates for the midterms. It would get mired in the courts for any possible outcome well after November.
So, I'm happy with this non-outcome of not getting SAVE.

What I don't get is that SUPPORT for the SAVE act would make GREAT election ads and sniveling away without further voting takes away this chance to connect with voters on an emotional issue, n'est ce pas?
