Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche was narrowly confirmed by the Senate on Saturday to lead the Justice Department on a permanent basis under President Trump.
Blanche’s nomination was approved in a 50-49 vote, with two Republicans, Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Susan Collins (R-Maine), voting with all Democrats against his confirmation.
“Mr. Blanche is nominated to one of the most important offices in our country, and he has shown that he’s up to that task,” Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said ahead of the vote. “His impressive background and the presentation at our hearing in the Judiciary Committee are proof that he’s led the Justice Department with distinction and is well suited to continue doing that.”

If she loses re-election , she deserves it.
Murk and Collins blow
Her and Murkowski both deserve to lose re-election. The sooner the better.
You know what the biggest problem Republicans have is?
REPUBLICANS
The only thing is...Collins brings home the bacon.
So much for seeing justice done.
You put a pure MAGA\conservative in contention for Collins’ seat he\she would not be elected. I think she goes “left” in Maine at election time to keep her seat. I think she knew her vote wasn’t needed to get the pass. Murkowski is a completely different situation. Totally self-serving, protected by the byzantine RCV voting system. She knows she’s difficult if not impossible to dislodge.
I don’t see how RCV is constitutional! Seems to me it violates past one-person one-vote USSC decisions!
“Her and Murkowski both deserve to lose re-election. The sooner the better.”
Yep, there’s no hope - WE NEED DEMOCRATS to destroy the country.
Right?
“You put a pure MAGA\conservative in contention for Collins’ seat he\she would not be elected. I think she goes “left” in Maine at election time to keep her seat.”
She can vote with Trump, AND LOSE. Or she can vote against Trump once in a while and WIN. Don’t blame her, blame the IDIOT WHITES, particularly the College-Educated Women for forcing ANY Republican in that part of the country to have have to distance themselves from Trump.
No, Collins has the Republican vote as solidly as she needs to; the deciding factor up here is the squishy center, which she must dominate to hold her seat, and she has done that successfully since Jesus wore short pants. We do bitch and moan about the things she doesn’t help us with, but she picks her battles as carefully as she can. She likely worked to make sure they had the 50 before she gave the Democrats a meaningless bone. I don’t love her, but I won’t put a loony lefty who will seek to destroy everything I value in the US senate in place of a centrist who will give me 2/3 of what I want, and most of what the state needs.
Exactly!
They gave her a pass. Collins shows up for the most important things for us. We work with what we have.
That blows up the distant hope of impeachment REMOVAL by the Senate should the Republicans lose the majority in the mid-terms. Blanche will slaughter each and every Democrat senator as every one of them has extinction level event monsters (not skeletons) in their closets. (So do most Republican senators)
House impeachment now is meaningless with the last 2 purely political hatred and future election impediment, zero legal or ethical grounds impeachments of Trump. Impeachment is NOT an indictment of crimes anymore. It’s a political prybar, hammer and sickle.
For the record - I respect Collins. She is a great Republican Senator.
For the record - I respect Collins. She is a great Republican Senator.
But we don’t. She must win to keep democrats from investigating Trump every minute.
The 17th amendment was a huge mistake.
As awful as she is she is the only chance we have to keep that seat.
Forget the RINOS, why can’t even 1 Dem vote for a qualified nominee? It’s a loyalty test - and it is shameful what Congress has become.
