Every summer, thousands of boaters gather in Muscamoot Bay to tie off, turn up the music, and spend the day on the water.
Located on Lake St. Clair, this is one of the most well-known freshwater boating destinations in the Midwest. Boats line up side by side, forming floating rows where people move from boat to boat, meet new people, and take part in a full day of summer energy on the water.
There are no tickets, no gates, and no formal setup. Just show up, anchor, and be part of it.
Event Details
Date: August 8th, 2026.
Location: Muscamoot Bay, MI.
Time: Morning through late afternoon.
What to Expect
Boaters begin arriving early in the morning, setting anchors and slowly forming rows across the bay. As the day builds, boats tie off to one another, creating large floating groups that stretch across the water.
By midday, the bay is packed with boats, music, and people moving freely between groups.
Morning: Boats arrive and anchor.
Midday: Peak crowds and full raft formations.
Afternoon: Music, socializing, and high energy.
Evening: Boats begin to break off and head in.
Before You Go
Planning ahead makes a big difference.
Fuel up before heading out on the water. There are no fuel stops in the bay, and traffic can make leaving difficult once the area fills up.
-Food and drinks -Ice and coolers -Proper anchors and lines -Charged phones or navigation devices -Arriving earlier gives you a better position and an -easier setup.
Food on the Water
If you get hungry while you’re out there, you may be able to order from Sorrento's Pizza Boat, which delivers directly to boaters in the bay.
Availability and wait times can vary depending on the crowd, so it’s always best to bring backup food and snacks.

Why Muscamoot Bay
Muscamoot Bay is one of the few places where an event like this can happen naturally.
The water is shallow enough to anchor easily, the bay is wide open for large gatherings, and its location on Lake St. Clair makes it accessible from multiple launch points.
It has become a long-standing tradition for boaters across Michigan and surrounding areas. Jobbie Nooner is another well-known event held on Lake St. Clair.

Obnoxious drunks, blasting music, peeing in the water, and topless chicks.
Been there, done that. Never again
Been there but not for Raft Off, but got rid of the boat so I don’t go anymore.
Remember there’s a guy with a kind of pirate ship, girls have to flash to board.
There is a similar event here in west michigan every friday night in what we call hanky pank bijou off the grand river near spring lake.
I don’t even go to the Woodward Dream Cruise but I will catch some of it on TV or by livestream.
This “Raft Off” thing is held in a location just a few minutes east of Selfridge ANGb. The USCG and local authorities make their presence known and the crowds keep them busy.
I survived The Who and Led Zeppelin at the Silverdome but something like Raft-Off is WAY out of my league now.
In FL, we call that Saturday at the sandbar.
No way would I swim in that ‘water’.
LOL! I go out on the water to get away from crowds. Not to say I don’t enjoy parking on a sandbar and sit in the water in my lounge chair with the wife and a couple of friends. Salt water though here in FL.

Then there's that other drunken boating event, the Jobbie Nooner, held earlier in the summer on Gull Island.
Too bad there is so many followers of the virtue signal crowd here... 14 post for an event this big is truly sad... most Michigan boaters are huge Trump supporters
