GAO is right. The government is not bloated beyond all expectations, it doesn’t waste our money on nonsensical stuff, it’s not running $2 trillion annual deficits, it’s not ruining the country, and all is well with government and budgeting.

GAO should debate the number of angels that can dance on the of a pin. It would be a more worthwhile endeavor than this crapola.

So now DOGE should do GAO. It’s another entrenched gubmint bureaucracy that protects those on the inside of being protected.

The screaming and temper tantrums from Democrats on the left showed better than any study that DOGE was a success and a step in the right direction and saved a lot of money. What this study shows is that DOGE needed to go a lot further. At least half of the money that the government spends is currently unjustified waste and outright fraud.

CNBC BS. The only chance that this claim is true is if the DOGE reductions were prevented by the DNC's judiciary moles.

Musk obviously (and naively) assumed that the Demrats wouldn’t spend all their time opposing ending corruption.

Re: "The GAO report was requested in June last year..."

Only took the GAO 13 months to figure this out!

“Of course the GAO would say that. DOGE made them look bad..................”

I think that’s accurate. The tip off is that the requesters were Democrats. The GAO tends to “find” whatever the requesting congresscritters are looking for.

That said, I don’t think DOGE was about exposing government waste. I think that was the cover story for the effort to gain access to all the disparate, unconnected Federal government databases, and downloading people’s data to a unified, privately-held database. Once they had everyone’s data, DOGE was allowed to quietly fade away. Which it did, even before the publicized end date of 7/4/26.

The GAO investigated the government, found that the government did nothing wrong.

Possibly true, considering leftist judges blocked several DOGE initiatives.

There were no savings as the appropriations didn’t change and no recission legislation has occurred. Did they identify a lot of wasted and misspent money? yes. don’t wait for a check.

The GAO is a political hack department. I quit taking it seriously after the Obamacare lies it stated.

https://www.aei.org/commentary/not-one-dime-health-care-law-projected-to-add-6-2-trillion-to-u-s-deficit/

What a disaster and a bunch of lies. What good is the GAO if they can make that kind of ‘error’.

Here’s the money quote, near the bottom:

“In their review, the GAO said it checked DOGE’s Wall of Receipts claims about cut contracts, grants, and leases from Jan. 20, 2025, when Trump took office, through July 7, 2026, three days after DOGE announced on social media it had wound down. The GAO said it compared DOGE reporting to official data from publicly available federal databases.”

Thus, the DOGE reporting didn’t match the government databases. This assumes the government databases are correct.

I was a 6 Sigma Black Belt for ten years, and there are a zillion ways to distort savings. Our results were audited by a separate accounting office. But part of the issue is: “How are savings measured?” Are you saving cash out the door, or money from one department to another? How are you measuring? Over what period of time? What are your sources?

I’m suspicious that the GAO didn’t say how much DOGE saved in total. That looks like a political omission. Nor were there any explanations of how DOGE measured its savings versus how the GAO measured the savings.

I suspect they’re comparing apples and oranges, not that DOGE exagerated anything.

Might I suggest that folks who are interested take some time and check out the history of the GAO, which was originally called the General Accounting Office.

Note the timimg of its creation, and I’m not talking about the end of WWI.

The GAO has always been a tool of Deep State.

Since its inception.
