Burnham 'looking into' conducting Epstein inquiry, says victims minister

Andy Burnham is "looking into" the possibility of holding a public inquiry into the UK activities of the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to victims minister Alex Davies-Jones.

Speaking to BBC Newsnight, Davies-Jones said that the prime minister had agreed to meet Epstein's victims.

She said the government is also reviewing whether the alleged actions of former Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed could also be part of an inquiry.

Davies-Jones resigned from former Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's government in May, later accusing his government of failing to listen to Epstein's survivors. She was reappointed as victims minister when Burnham took office.

Speaking on the programme, she said she had discussed holding a public inquiry into the alleged behaviour of Epstein and Al Fayed with the prime minister and cabinet secretary Dame Antonia Romeo during her re-appointment.

Asked whether an inquiry was now possible, Davies-Jones said: "We are looking at this, we are reviewing what is possible. Again, same with Harrods survivors."

She added: "I have been assured that the prime minister is taking this very seriously.

"He will meet with those victims and he is looking at what is possible, now he has access to all of the information as prime minister to see what action we can take."

After resigning in May, Davies-Jones told the Commons in June that people whose lives were devastated by Epstein's abuse have too often been reduced to a footnote.

“Mohamed Al Fayed”

He would’ve been Princess Diana’s FIL if she and Dodi hadn’t been taken out. I wonder how many years/decades Epstein conducted “business” in the UK.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I’m beginning to believe there is no Epstein conspiracy. It sounds like he was a pedophile and liked teenage girls. It sounds like Ghislaine procured those girls for him, and a few of Epstein’s friends may have joined in. He paid the girls so it was basically slightly underage prostitution. If there were dozens of abused victims, surely some of them would come forward with credible information, but that doesn’t seem to be happening.

"Victims' Minister?

P.S. Fix this sentence:

Speaking on the programme, she said she had discussed holding a public inquiry into the alleged behaviour of Epstein and Al Fayed with the prime minister and cabinet secretary Dame Antonia Romeo during her re-appointment.

I’m already there. There is no conspiracy. There are victims who took the money to keep quiet. If they want the break their NDAs, there isnt a jury in the country that would hold them liable for damages. They need to put up, I.e., name the perpetrators, or shut up. Too much societal energy is being expended in purportedly getting to the truth when the people were doing that for, “justice for the victims,” won’t help
