Officially, the summit for democratic socialists across the country here this weekend was taking place in a hotel conference facility.
But on Friday night, the real action was at a corner bar two miles away, where dozens of members of the Democratic Socialists of America crammed into a patio in the middle of a summer storm.
As the rain poured down, two DSA leaders put it bluntly: If they wanted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) to run for president — and if they wanted the DSA to endorse her — it was time to start now.
“We’re in the moment of the presidential question,” Katie Sims, an electoral organizer in Ithaca, New York, said at the “DSA for AOC” gathering. “Doesn’t it just make sense now?”
That was, for many, the question looming over the Democratic Socialists of America’s summit, right in the middle of the group’s most consequential summer ever.
A self-dubbed big-tent group that was essentially dormant a decade ago, the DSA has ballooned into one of the largest and most disciplined operations on the U.S. left.
The Chicago summit hosted about 600 dues-paying members who flew in from across the country to attend workshops and swap organizing strategies as their group faces greater momentum — and greater scrutiny — than ever before.
After its members helped elect Zohran Mamdani mayor of New York, DSA-backed candidates won a string of Democratic primaries this summer in deep-blue cities. The victories intensified a broader fight with centrist Democrats, some of whom signed on to a pledge declaring themselves “capitalist, not socialist.”

Tea Party goes first.
The DSA doesn’t want the [0bama] White Hut to be a homeless center?
I think their britches just became too big for them! Hope they fall hard and fast!
Same here.
They are FINALY out in the open! Great! I prefer a fair flight to there decades of sneaking around.
How many demonicRAT Nationalist Socialists are we going to gave to live through before we lear our lesson? Wasn’t FDR, LBJ, Jimma Carter, BJ Clinton, Barry Soetoros and Otto Penn enough?
Uh, no.
Not exactly “a Republican form of government” now is it?
.
“Mason (VA) argued that “if the General Government should have no right to suppress rebellions against particular States, it will be in a bad situation indeed. As rebellions against itself originate in and against individual States, it must remain a passive spectator of its own subversion,” without this resolution.
Randolph (VA) liked both purposes he saw in the resolution: “first, to secure a republican government; secondly, to suppress domestic commotions.”
.
It appears that the non-democratic socialist CCUSA is failing on both counts, republican government; secondly, to suppress domestic commotions.
They are denning the first and causing the second.
I believe the progs had a name for that...
.
God help us…..🙄

Horseface is as close to a donkey as the Democrats could hope to field as a presidential candidate in 2027.
Well we can clearly see the WP is backing AOC
This unexpected threat from socialism will influence policy even if few socialists are actually elected. In the next 4 years, we will have to confront the Social Security crisis again. The socialists will make it tough to do so honestly and intelligently because they will threaten to primary any Democrat who cooperates with the Republicans. There is no Daniel Patrick Moynihan to save us.

Stefan Zweig, the famous Austrian writer, described the Viennese coffeehouse as
“…a sort of democratic club, open to everyone for the price of a cheap cup of coffee, where every guest can sit for hours with this little offering, to talk, write, play cards, receive post, and above all consume an unlimited number of newspapers and journals.”

Only good thing Stalin ever did was put that icepick in Trotsky’s brain.
