Farsi Follies: Persian farce flapdoodles Trump’s promise to end Iranian conflict
Turkie Today ^ | 28 July 2026 | A. Craig Copetas

Iran is a theology.

It is no longer a country.

Not in the way diplomats mean the word. Not in the bureaucratic sense that produces signatures, ministries, chains of command, and solemn communiques printed on heavy paper before disappearing into filing cabinets.

What remains of Iran is something stranger: a prayer house where the faithful still answer a call no one can command.

MAGA still behaves as though there’s a political switchboard secreted in Tehran, even after six destructive months of war. They imagine some paneled room where a weary official picks up the telephone, listens gravely, and relays instructions down an orderly ladder of command. That fantasy died before the ink on the latest memorandum of understanding had dried. The ceasefire was less a peace than an intermission between explosions.

American officials now concede what was obvious from the opening act: the agreement never had a pulse worth checking. Ironically, the reason was not military failure but military success. The strikes shattered the machinery that was supposed to make diplomacy possible. You cannot negotiate with an organization after you've demolished the office where the negotiations are supposed to be approved.

Political scientists spend careers asking Robert Dahl's famous question: "Who governs?" In today's Iran, the answer is comic in its emptiness.

Nobody knows.

Perhaps not even the people carrying the titles.

Long-winded editorial from a paper in Turkey that is generally hostile to the USA. I'd call it moderately reliable with an anti-USA spin.

The TLDR summary is that The Paper of Record in Turkey (thus Ergoden) believes the USA so thoroughly has kicked Iran's ass that "the USA is negotiating with ghosts". Iran is about to fall over. Just give it a good shove and get it over with.

Shockingly, I agree with Ergoden's Paper of Record.

Josephus coined the phrase “Theocracy”. Maybe it started that way. Maybe not. It has evolved to a Mafia like Criminal Empire. The Ayatollahs have no standing any longer with the people in Iran. Only the 4,000,000 useful idiots that are still around.

How to write a headline that will drive people away from reading your article.

That is pointedly bull shite.
I don’t know of anyone who thinks such a thing...just leftist panty wetting.

Ah, this guy’s target audience are anti-Americans in Turkey.

They probably like it.

It’s interesting, to me, is he rejects the MSM approach of “the USA lost to Iran” and goes with “the USA totally destroyed Iran’s leadership, such that there’s no one to sign a peace deal that has any authority”.

I trust Turkey’s analysis more than the MSM. They hate us, but see what we (and Israel) did.

It’s not leftist.

But you’re correct, it is anti-American, as stated in the first post.

I agree with Victor Davis Hansen - recognize the Gov’t of Iran in Exile, ie The Shah of Iran, and start developing that.

...the post-strike behavior appears so erratic. The contradiction isn't necessarily evidence of strategy. It may simply be evidence that no conductor is standing before the orchestra anymore. The brass section is playing one anthem and the percussion another, while a bunch of guys backstage are auctioning off the violins.

MAGA policymakers often make the same mistake because democracies naturally assume other governments function the way their own do. Every meeting should produce implementation. Every agreement should have an enforcement mechanism. Every signature should bind the state. That assumption becomes dangerous when the state itself has dissolved into competing centers of gravity.

There a strong ring of truth to this piece - worth reading...

What’s particularly interesting is it’s coming from a source I’d generally classify as hostile to the USA.

Left wing idiots at MSNOW hold Trump accountable for any change in any agreement with Iran. They fit the above comment - but not MAGA - we're more aware than democrat 'elites'...

If it comes down to a purely religious war (I say we’re there already) then targeting each and every mosque, religious school, Islamic center and all other places of worship with its own personal JDAM should provide days and weeks of hijinks.
