The Democrat-controlled Massachusetts House passed legislation Wednesday that loosens restrictions on abortions that can be performed after 24 weeks of gestation, with supporters saying the policy change will enable more residents with serious complications to remain in Massachusetts rather than needing to travel out of state to seek care.
The bill scraps the four types of exemptions currently outlined in statute for life-threatening situations for the mother or fetus, instead giving deference to doctors' professional judgment.
The House passed the bill on a 119-33 vote, with all Republicans who voted casting their votes against the bill. Democrats who rejected the bill included Reps. Brian Ashe, Lisa Field, Michael Finn, Dennis Gallagher, Russell Holmes, Christopher Markey, Francisco Paulino, Alan Silvia and Jeffrey Turco. Rep. Susannah Whipps, the chamber's only Independent member, voted yes.
Judiciary Committee Chair Rep. Michael Day said the law has evolved as Beacon Hill works to ensure women "have the freedom to make their own reproductive decisions" and respond to feedback from physicians who've been unable to provide abortion after 24 weeks.
"What we have done through the years, through three different iterations now, is try to get it right so that we get out of the way, and the medical professional can have a discussion with the expectant mother to seek the best care for that individual (as) possible," Day told reporters ahead of the vote.

As a MA resident, I can say that a big percentage of my state’s residents will continue to hate Trump with a white hot hate because “he took away our right to abortion”. Don’t try to convince them otherwise, because they will call you a Nazi.

That’s pretty Black & White, except for the Republicans who didn’t vote. Still, good reason to never vote for a Democrat.

Does feeling depressed about having a baby when you do not have very much money or maybe the man is not around anymore considered “a serious complication”? I think that it is in the minds of these evil people who want to change the law. They lie to themselves.

People who were born and raised in Boston, Mass have moved away, and it’s now a foreign country masquerading as an American city.
If you were wondering why they make such a display of Boston’s history on the Fourth when you KNOW they absolutely HATE America’s Founding, that’s why, to carry on the pretense that they still believe in America.

I have two good friends who live in Carlisle , MA . Nicest people you could ever meet but the wife has TDS super bigtime . She is always posting stuff on her Facebook page about Trump . She is obsessed with him . These folks are very well off . Cadillac liberals if you will .

By my count, there are only 24 Republicans in the entire house in Massachusetts? That’s astonishing. I know it’s blue but dang didn’t know it was that blue.
It’s the gerrymandering (that was literally invented in MA). It’s definitely a Liberal state, but something like 40+% of the voters are Republican — but we get next to no representation in our government. The system is geared to ensure very strong Democrat control.
Taxachusetts is lost.
