Iran strikes on CIA facilities prompt questions about possible Russian intel role

Iranian drone attacks on CIA facilities in the Gulf have prompted U.S. intelligence analysts to investigate whether Russia assisted by providing targeting information or advanced drone technology, said four people familiar with U.S. intelligence. These people, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss national security matters, said U.S. intelligence officials have ‌not yet reached firm conclusions about the possible Russian involvement in the attacks on CIA facilities.

But they cited the strikes' effectiveness and apparent precision, as well as Russia's broader technical support for Iran, as possible evidence.

Reuters and other media have reported — and U.S. officials have acknowledged — that Russia has provided targeting and other support for Iran in its strikes on U.S. targets in the Gulf region generally, but the intelligence community's investigation of possible Russian involvement in supporting the CIA facility attacks has not been previously disclosed.

At least two CIA sites were struck in March, Reuters and other outlets have reported. One of the facilities was the CIA station in Saudi Arabia, which is located in the U.S. embassy in Riyadh, and a separate site was located in eastern Iraq. Some of the sources said additional CIA sites had been hit, but they did not disclose details.

RUSSIA HELPED TARGET FACILITIES: INTELLIGENCE MEMO One internal memo from a Western intelligence agency, described by an official in the region with access to the document, concluded Russia has likely played a role in targeting regional CIA facilities.

Russia has been Iran’s prime patron and ally.

When they co-opted Trump bombing Iran, Israel and the Mossad “forgot” (/s) to tell Trump that “weakened” Iran and its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have many friends——and would be supplied with military hardware, precursor chemicals, and logistical support by an international network involving state actors and foreign front companies, particularly from China, Russia, and localized proxies.

Intelligence indicates Chinese entities supply the IRGC with precursor chemicals (such as sodium perchlorate) for ballistic missile fuel and dual-use components for drone manufacturing.

Russia and Iran operate a self-reinforcing exchange, where Russia supplies military hardware, aviation parts, and technological support in return for Iranian-made drones.

The US Treasury’s “Office of Foreign Assets Control” tracks and sanctions foreign aviation, transport, and front companies operating out of jurisdictions like Hong Kong, Italy, and Nigeria that act as intermediaries to obscure IRGC procurement.

Even an idiot would notice the Iranian government appears stronger than ever.

Iran diverts massive domestic resources like food and oil revenues directly to the IRGC to sustain their fighting forces and domestic operations. In conflict zones like Syria, the IRGC sustains its logistical footprint and fighters through regional corridors managed by allied militias and covert transport firms.

Maybe true, maybe not - but with NATO, UK and USA giving intel and targeting for HIMARS, Storm Shadow and now drones flying thousands of miles into Russian interior, it would be stupid not to expect some response from them.

It is what Russia does in the world, it isn’t that we set them off and force them to be evil in reaction, it is that we restrain them and that limits how much evil they can get away with around the world.

Russia and Iran are very close allies.
Putin has always had an enormous fascination for radical islam. That’s why he also uses Chechen troops to attack Europe right now, they have indeed helped the Kremlin a lot in its invasion of Ukraine.

Russia has signed military collaboration deals with Iran, even sharing nuclear information.

Now that everyone has realized here on FR what Russia truly is, an enemy of the West and the US based on its acts and deeds, it’s interesting to notice that the 10-12 pro-Putin FR members have literally vanished from this website. It’s spectacular! They were spreading pro-Kremlin propaganda all day long here before. Very good news for conservatism and FR that this has finally ended.

It is reminiscent of the Afghanisplan that they learned during the cold war. Let your enemy get caught in a web that will bankrupt them or force them to pull out, that we learned in Vietnam.

This is why is so important to have very clear goals that don’t include holding territory. The one blatant thing that complicates the Iran situation right now is the straights of hormuz, and they all know it.

For those who don't get the reference: Hunt for Red October, Admiral Josh Painter: [after running up to the USS Enterprise flight deck to survey an F-14 crash scene] "This business will get out of control! It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it!"

Iran getting intel from Russia or China? Gee, that's a surprise. I'm surprised Mossad isn't helping them too.

I’m sure Russia knows who supplied the missiles and the targeting data that sank the Moskva.

What did you think was going to happen once the opportunity for payback presented itself?

Iran has it's own spy satellite. China has more reason to supply Iran with intel than Russia does. China is dependent on Iranian oil.

What are friends for? Duh!

Alliances are formed to help each other.

Expect that China is also involved in targeting American interests. And N.Korea.

Not quite.

ANKE, PGR88, delta7 and many more are still on the Russian side. YOu might have noticed some posts right on this thread with them in support of what Russia does.

I’m sure that Russia, China and North Korea are back-door supporting Iran (weapons, technology, supplies, etc). I see that China has helped improve Iran’s drone accuracy with technology assistance gained during the cease fire.
