Nolte: DHS Encourages Springfield Haitians to Self-Deport (free $2,600 and airfare)

And remember, that’s where these people are going: home. An earthquake brought them here. They knew the stay would be temporary (18 months). That turned into 16 years, and instead of complaining, protesting, and making things difficult for their very generous hosts, they should be grateful for the extra time and thank America on their way … home.

Trump administration, backed by a recent Supreme Court decision, put the “temporary” back into “Temporary Protected Status (TPS),” the current focus is on Springfield, Ohio, a town of about 45,000 that saw its population explode when 15,000 Haitians with TPS moved in.

Either way, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) jumped on the news report Monday and urged those whose TPS status ends Friday to take advantage of the government’s self-deportation initiative, which offers free plane fare and a $2,600 payout.

Trump has successfully revoked a 2010 TPS designation that was only supposed to last 18 months, some 350,000 Haitians nationwide have the choice of being deported or self-deporting.

There’s an online rumor that the mere act of revoking this TPS status has resulted in 80 percent of Springfield’s Haitians self-deporting. That is almost certainly not true or even close to the real number. There have been anecdotal reports of people leaving, but no evidence of anything close to mass deportation.

Things are about to happen, though, because as of today, TPS ends for these Haitians on Friday, July 24…

“Temporary protected status for Haitians was extended for two weeks on Friday, July 10, according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, offering a reprieve to the many living in the Springfield area,” according to a local report. “TPS for Haitians was initially expected to expire on Friday, sparking protests in Springfield for the past two weeks following a U.S. Supreme Court Decision.”

They all have at least 5 anchor babies by now. I cannot see that many of these illegal aliens are going to take the DHS $2600 + airfare incentive to GTFO>

What did they lose? Cardboard shacks, poor water, useless electricity, and footpaths instead of streets.

Trump has done a great job sealing the border, but his deportation strategy for illegal immigrants from Day 1 has been a joke. Basically, he only deports illegal immigrants who have committed felonies in the US.

In December 2024, I posted a plan on these pages for Trump to deport all illegal immigrants and he ignored it. I copied and pasted the same plan South Korea used in the early 2000s to deport all their Filipino and Russian illegal immigrants, and it was a great success for the ROK. It cleaned out all the Filipino and Russia towns in six months.

I guess it would be cruel to suggest that since they over-extended their stay so long that we under-extend their trip back and drop them off halfway. Ditto for the Somalians.

If in the past 16 years they produced children here, they are probably not going anywhere.
Those children are citizens. They are entitled to stay. Constitutionally entitled according to SCOTUS.
I observed an ICE action a few days ago. No drama, just two people, one driving without all the required paperwork to drive...and three little US citizens in the back seat.
No drama.
But plenty of theater.

They didn't go home they just left their current residence to go hide somewhere else.

They should have been treated like diplomats where no child born on American soil is given American citizenship. They should agree to that or be left on the tarmac in their sh!thole country.

I wonder of those "anchor babies" are entitled to stay if they were here as part of an organized, illegal incursion into the country?

Also, if they are minors, it seems their parents should be able to change their citizenship to the "motherland".

And, finally, rather than offering them money, they should be offered freedom from detention in the most remote, bear-infested corner of Alaska.

Way too many of them have committed felonies but he hasn't deported them (yet).

The children can stay, the parents need to leave. Pretty sure most parents will bring their children with them.

The children can stay, the parents need to leave.

A fine theory, but easily countered by the inevitable "protective penumbra" of the child's US citizenship, which the parents will be found within. After all, what US citizen, especially one in vulnerable youth, would not be entitled to the loving care of his natural parents? Who would deprive him of that? Not Amy Comey Barrett, no siree.

Pretty sure most parents will bring their children with them.

I'm pretty sure the lawyer tribe will increase now that SCOTUS has torn the heart out of the law, in favor of the heart. Rather than take the kids with them, the parents will enlist lawyers and media figures.

The birthright citizen will remain, like the head of a tick. It will be resolved that the head needs its body.
