Francesca Hong, running for governor of Wisconsin, focuses campaign on affordability — and Israel

Francesca Hong is running for governor of Wisconsin, emphasizing affordability and opposition to US support for Israel.

Her message is one the Republican Governors Association hopes to boost ahead of the Democratic primary next month: The opposing party unveiled an ad on Thursday dubbing her “too liberal” for Wisconsin. The ad is set to run in liberal parts of the state.

The Republican calculus appears to be to make her appealing to a restive Democratic base that, in a number of races nationwide, has turned against the party establishment. That, in turn, could deliver the nomination to an unabashed left-winger who would likely lose in a crucial swing state.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani may take Manhattan, the thinking goes, but his policies would curdle cheese in Wisconsin.

Hong is a single mother and a former chef whose political recipe for appealing to voters has vaulted her to the front of the state’s crowded Democratic primary, bringing another democratic socialist within striking distance of victory.

Her closest competitor is former Lieutenant Gov. Mandela Barnes. Another candidate aligned with the more centrist Democratic establishment, Lieutenant Gov. Sara Rodriguez, dropped out of the race on Friday, facing a funding shortfall.

Could be a problem for those who keep kosher. They put cheese on EVERYTHING in Wisconsin.

Sadly, to win elections in America those are two of the three elements that will gain votes:

1 Hate Jews and Israel. It even gains votes with American Jews, amazing.

2 Affordability! Promise to tax the rich into poverty, and we all know that when the communists get total control, anything over $1000 in assets will be considered rich.

3 And she hasn’t gotten to this one yet, free stuff!

Cover those three bases, and soon you’ll be winning elections.

Wisconsin has always had a broad “Progressive” streak, long before the Democrats were ever recognized as a viable political party there. There was always the “Old Guard” Republicans, from the time of the Civil War, and the “Progressive” Republicans, a sort of mutant offshoot that was espoused by the La Follette family of Wisconsin, authors of the progressive income tax, the popular election of Senators (rather than being appointed by the state legislatures of each state), and the whole idea of Prohibition, all very bad experiments in extension of government power.

Populist types and rural rubes more interested in raising kids and Hell than corn and prosperity.

Yup. Being anti-Israel demonstrates loserdom.

Her rising poll numbers suggest otherwise...as do the pathetic statements from Wisconsin Jewish Democrats who say they'll hold their nose and vote for Hong if she wins the nomination.

Who knows...being anti-Israel could be the position that propels Hong into the governor's mansion.
