Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin on Friday threatened state election officials with possible prison time if they don’t comply with Trump administration methods to determine whether noncitizens are on voter rolls.
Expanding on President Donald Trump’s election speech a night earlier, Mullin said that the Department of Homeland Security had preliminarily determined there were more than 250,000 noncitizens on voting lists in at least four states: California, New Jersey, Nevada and Pennsylvania.
Mullin demanded states run their voter rolls through a federal database maintained by DHS to determine if noncitizens were on lists and said if they don’t, they won’t be able to access federal grants.
But the use of the DHS database — which was historically for assessing immigration benefits — has been blocked by a federal judge, who ruled that repurposing it for this effort violated rules on the disclosure of Social Security records. The database has also proved to be error-prone when used to evaluate voter rolls. It often flags newly naturalized citizens as noncitizen voters. Voting rights experts say the use of the database is flawed and could result in registered voters purged from rolls.
“We need to make sure that individuals that are legally able to vote are voting,” Mullin said from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next door to the White House. “If you’re illegal and attempted to vote, or you tried to vote illegally for someone else, we will find you and we will charge you.”
The secretary’s comments come as the Trump administration is increasingly using the levers of government to sow doubts about the nation’s electoral system as the midterm elections draw near.

I think Trump is moving on multiple fronts to get justification to initiate the National Emergency Act. He can seize control of the entire federal election process and no one can stop him.
Evidence of foreign election interference? That’s a National Emergency.
Evidence that Blue states refuse to provide evidence that only US citizens are voting? That’s a National Emergency.

Well, how about it governor? Open up the voter rolls for inspection. And if not, why not.
If the tables were turned NBC would not be using the term “threatening.” They would say something like, “concerns that failure to comply could result in legal consequences, perhaps even incarceration.”
When the pubs do it, it’s a threat. When the dems do it, it’s concern for failing to comply with reasonable requests.
I’ve seen this kind of reporting long enough to know these slanted word choices are just that. Choices by the liberal media to impact skulls full of mush into thinking what they want the masses to think.

President Trump said China conducted what may be “the largest compromise of election data in history” with its “illicit acquisition of 220 million U.S. voter files.”
REALITY CHECK
Twenty states and Washington, D.C., will provide voter data with an online download.
Fifteen states allow access to voter rolls, but users must state a political or research purpose, have state residency, be a registered voter in the state, or sign a use agreement.
Ten states primarily provide records through local election offices or supervised inspection, rather than an open statewide file.
Five states limit voter-file access to specified groups, such as candidates, political parties, committees, news organizations or government officials.
Trump said that China has the “names, addresses, phone numbers, political party preferences and other sensitive data.

Nothing I said “throws out the Constitution”.
Nothing I said indicated “cancelling elections”.
If the Democrats wanted to do exactly what I propose, I would be fine with it.
My focus is on WHO administers the elections in each state? I say it should be the national guard. Everyone votes on paper on election day. If absentee votes or mail-in votes are justified, that should be accommodated, with an actual justification. Maintain chain of custody. Don’t count until you have all the votes accounted for (I wouldn’t mind if the boxes of completed ballots were sealed for 2 weeks under military guard while we wait for mail-in votes to arrive. Once we have EVERY ballot, we start counting and we finish within 24 hours.
I don’t think that threatens the republic one bit.

I would also add that if a National Emergency were declared, and if the National Guard were to administer elections this year, then I think Voter IDs and purple ink should also be required.
Honest elections aren’t really hard. So far, our government has clearly not wanted honest elections.

This type of wording creates more problems than solutions.
Most problem voter registrations are not from illegals...
They are from non-citizens with legal visa who were registered to vote when they applied fora drivers license.
They are from minors who were registered to vote when they applied for a drivers license.
They are from felons who were registered to vote when they applied for a drivers license.
They are from movers who are hiding from debt collectors and were registered to vote when they applied for a drivers license.
Vote harvesters don’t discriminate. We make a serious factual error when we do not see the full picture.
The U. S. Constitution grants no emergency powers to government.
Or, to put it more objectively without the editorializing: Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said on friday that state election officials may be charged and could serve prison time if the those state officials don't comply with the rules and regulation to determine whether noncitizens are on voter rolls.
prison time is the correct response.
