Karl Marx's economics, and it concedes valuable ideological ground to the left every time it's repeated. It's a line some conservatives still reach for, almost reflexively. It's time that changed, because even the claim that communism works in theory is plainly false.
In a speech Thursday announcing a global crackdown on left-wing terrorism, Secretary of State Marco Rubio made exactly that argument: communism does not even work in theory. Socialism and communism, by their very nature, require the centralization of power, the destruction of the individual, and the abolition of private property, the very institution that has been instrumental to the development of the West and the greatest nations on Earth. Even as an abstraction, communism is the antithesis of nearly everything Americans have historically believed in.
"One of the criticisms you sometimes hear of communism, for example, is that it sounds good in theory, but it never works in practice. That's actually not true," the secretary of state said. "Communism does not sound good in theory. The world it envisions for all of us is small, flat, grey, leveled of all exception, drained of all that is good and noble in the human soul. The world it envisions is a world without courage, a world without creativity or ambition, a world without heroes or glory or great causes to strive towards, a world without miracles, without myths, without men who rise above the rest to do incredible and extraordinary things. And the world communism envisions is a world without God."

Fantastic summary by Marco! He nails it.
The average guy might find value in Rubio’s argument. But it won’t affect a leftist in the least.
Because every socialist/communist has a core belief:
“This time it will be different.”
But of course it never is.

Rubio looks very presidential. Just made for the role. Mucho gravitas.
Bravo, Marco! America was made for people like Marco.

I really hope 2028 doesn’t turn into Vance/Rubio duking it out, I hope they can come together and continue MAGA well.
It was a brilliant statement.
I don’t think the taget audience was confirmed leftists. The target was those on the fence. Those that thin it doesn’t effect me so I won’t get involved and those who want arguments to use for family & friends.

No, the idea that this time it will be different is not what is driving the Left. Communism for them is not a system to maximize economic benefits. Rather, Its purpose is to address what they perceive as injustice. As long as those who have more are punished it does not matter if we all live in poverty and oppression. For the left, communism is neither economics or politics; it is a moral imperative, i.e., it isreligion.
I think a lot of “Independent” voters want to feel good about themselves and they eventually vote “the way a good person votes”.
And I think a lot of these Independent voters typically think that Communism “means well” and so those ideas from AOC (or whomever) can’t be all bad.
But Rubio’s statement is excellent and I think it can help some normal people see that the Far Left would bring us a terrible world because it has bad ideas.
“The average guy might find value in Rubio’s argument. But it won’t affect a leftist in the least.”
Exactly.
This is The Swamp and Town Hall (same thing) glazing Rubio for ‘28.
SEEMS TO BE THE SAME MANTRA USED BY JUDGES WHO KEEP LETTING CRIMINALS OUT OF JAIL.
“This time it will be different” is just one core leftist belief, as I noted.
And you’re right about the moral imperative thing. There is no thinking ahead about practicality. It’s a kind of religion, as you noted.
A wise saying:
With capitalism, some people are poor.
With socialism, all people are poor.
“But it won’t affect a leftist in the least.”
I think a lot of the rats are primarily in favor of communism because we’re against it (negative partisanship). That makes them doubly dangerous.
Rubio should be saying these things on college campuses.
