July 17 (Reuters) - A federal appeals court on Friday ruled that New Jersey's assault-weapons law barring the possession of AR-15 semi-automatic rifles and large capacity magazines containing more than 10 rounds of ammunition is unconstitutional.
The ruling by the Philadelphia-based 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals marked the first time a federal appeals court had ruled that a state's assault weapons ban violated the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment by burdening the right to keep and bear arms for self-defense.

Here is the ruling. It’s 192 pages of opinion, dissents, partial dissents, and concurrences.
"As one of our sister circuits observed based on similar evidence: 'There may well be some capacity above which magazines are not in common use but, if so, the record is devoid of evidence as to what that capacity is; in any event, that capacity surely is not ten.'"
The head of Oregon State Shooting Ranges used to do presentations where he would dismantle an AR15 and an old hunting rifle. He showed them there will minimal differences.
The AR15 is black and scary, and does not use wood.

“Assault rifles” is itself a loaded term intended to prejudice opinion. The vast majority of “assault rifles” are never used to assault anyone. It would be more accurate to describe human hands as “assault hands” because they are used in violent crime far more often than “assault rifles.”

Although “mass shootings” make a big splash in the news, more homicides are committed every year in the US with fists and feet than with rifles of all types, including “assault rifles”. If you then add the infamous “blunt objects” into the “fists and feet” category, it’s not even close.

I just did a quick internet search. The definitions are all over the place. That alone should make the term meaningless.

The term “Assault weapon comes from the WWII German GtR44, the Sturmgewher, which literally means assault weapon.
Sturm is a Germanic word meaning to storm or assault, like in English if we were to say, “ Let’s storm the fortress walls.”
Its just a word that means to attack, press, engage, fight, etc.
Possibly the stupidest over reaction ever to a translated word.
