NYC jogger in coma after e-bike driver rams into her in Central Park — and he isn’t facing any consequences

Avid Upper West Side jogger was run down from behind by an e-bike rider going the wrong way in Central Park — is now in a medically induced coma, according to her family and a witness.

The “vibrant” 43-year-old runner, identified by her first name, Jean, had to have a portion of her skull removed during emergency cranial surgery following the harrowing July 7 crash, her niece, Brandi Wiltse, told The Post on Thursday.

“Now, over a week from the incident, she is still not awake, still in a medically induced coma,” Wiltse said.

But the electric bike driver involved is not facing any consequences, according to the police and an outraged Wiltse — who said the city can “absolutely” do more to hold reckless cyclists accountable.

Jean was was jogging on West Drive, near West 64th Street, at around 4:38 p.m. when she was hit by the e-bike rider, who was described by cops only as a 26-year-old man.

Witness Hoon Chan Sim said the cyclist was allegedly driving fast in the wrong direction in the running lane — instead of using the lane designated for bikes — and hit Jean from behind as she ran, causing her to fall and land on her head.

“He was going the wrong way on the running track,” “I heard a really loud screeching noise. My guess is that he was going pretty fast.”

The cyclist — who appeared to be a “courier,” based on his fast-looking bike — allegedly tried to leave but other pedestrians surrounded him to force him to stay

“The saddest thing was that he didn’t look at the victim. He was trying to get away from it but people gathered around him so he couldn’t,” Sim said.

“Jesus, I mean, the woman was bleeding out of ears.”

This poor woman was from Georgia. Came to live in the Big Apple. Where one of the multi ethnic maggots mowed her down. (profiling) Delivering food? Who knows.

The DA and police have little interest in the maggots that infest the rotting Big Apple

They identify the victim but nothing about the perp? Sounds about right for NYC.

“”when she was hit by the e-bike rider, who was described by cops only as a 26-year-old man

police told her they were no longer investigating her aunt’s accident. “”

.

It was the guy on the bike at fault, not “the aunt’s accident.”

The driver is muzz?

Black?

The cops would not do that for a White man...

We’ve had some fatalities here in the valley, some involving kids on e-bikes.

I see it as an enforcement issue, as people are basically riding mopeds down the sidewalk or the wrong way in bike lanes (people on normal bikes do this too). Just because your bike doesn’t make chainsaw noises doesn’t mean it’s not a motorized vehicle.

Start enforcing the existing VC and many of these issues will be minimized.

In the meantime the dumbassery will continue unabated.

Nationwide state/city level motorcycle “street legal” laws need to apply to any e-bike/scooter that can go over 10-15mph. (Including drivers’ licensing with an “M1” endorsement).

Hospital ER’s business is increasing a lot due to e-bikes, scooters combined with kids.

Of course cheap “Chinesium mods” to increase speed will proliferate.

I almost never see cops pull over illegal speed/sidewalk riding e-bikes/scooters unless they look underage without a helmet.

It’s hit and run. I know two survivors of e bikes running into them. Both just walking in the sidewalk - wham. One needed a knee replacement. Another goes to physical therapy two years later. In both cases the “bikers” just drove off. One was on a security camera. No matter. No license, helmet on : can’t ID them —- no accountability.

eBikes perform more like a motorcycle than a pedal powered bicycle. I don’t consider them evil, in and of themselves. Around where I live and work, however, most of the riders seem to be flaming a-holes.

The “street legal” laws should apply to any “e-motorcycle” with a throttle. I ride a real e-bike with no throttle, just an assist proportional to how hard I pedal. The assist cuts out at 28 mph (about as fast as I can go on an ordinary bike). Real e-bikes are great for exercise (e.g., old folks wanting to keep up with a group ride) but not very useful as delivery vehicles, since they are only marginally faster than ordinary bikes and are more expensive to operate.

Yep now a very “gray area” between an overpowered e-bike and and under powered street legal electric motorcycle that requires a DL, an M1 endorsement, registration & insurance. Usually involves “operable pedals”, top speed limits, power/wattage limits, etc., etc.. Getting confusing & I am sure law enforcement is way behind on the topic.

ER docs (esp. pediatric) are making out tho.!
