Michigan lawmakers demand answers from Canada on wildfire management

Some of Michigan's lawmakers have sent letters demanding answers on the rash of wildfires in Canada, where the smoke has drifted into the United States.

Michigan has been dealing with hazy skies and poor air quality because of drifting wildfire smoke since Wednesday. The smoke is expected to continue to linger into Friday over the state. This drifting smoke is a repeat of scenarios that happened in 2023 and again in 2025.

Detroit had the worst air quality in the world on Thursday because of the fine particulate matter in the atmosphere.

In a letter to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Republican Reps. John James, Jack Bergman, John Moolenaar and Lisa McClain noted that unhealthy air that originated from Canadian wildfires has once again drifted into Michigan.

"I've already spoken with the White House and Ambassador Pete Hoekstra to get answers and understand our options," McClain said.

Is it certain that their smoke is coming from Canada? Minnesota is having some nasty fires right now also.

Management? Management?
Canada has a leftist gubmit. And they are so inept that they look to Newsom-fornia and Waltz-A-Sodia for management direction.

I’ve heard some of the fires are in such remote areas, that Canada doesn’t even try to fight such fires.

In that case, hope for a cold snowy winter???

I hate the Weather Channel but watched 10 minutes. They showed a map of Canada with the symbols of flames for the sites of the forest fires (I refuse to call them wildfires).

However, I would also want Minnesota punished just like Canada if I had my way.

It is literally a case of drifting smoke outside my place right now. Worse than the two past times.

Newsom....

Ha.

But his scientific excuse of the hokey poky as the origin is faulty. Not what it’s all about.

A forest fire is a type of wildfire.

What Exactly Is a Wildfire?

"...not all wildfires could be called a forest fire or brush fire or grass fire, but, in many cases, those other terms are just more specific ways of referring to what is, in fact, a wildfire."

This drifting smoke is a repeat of scenarios that happened in 2023 and again in 2025.

What we are experiencing here in S.E. Michigan is magnitudes worse than '23 and '25.

It's a constant light cloud of smoke at ground level, compared to the upper level smoke back in 23 and 25.

The only way to explain it is like being directly down wind of a forest fire .........

There’s also a free app “Watch Duty” that provides updates, warnings, and map overlays.

“Some of Michigan’s lawmakers have sent letters demanding answers on the rash of wildfires in Canada...”

This one is easy:

fuel, oxygen, and spark. Where there is a forest, there can be a forest fire. Just that simple. I’ll bill Canada.

Same story here in SW Michigan. Ground level. Smells like smoke. Much worse than previous events.

In SE Wisconsin the air looks and smells similar to what would happen if there was a house fire a couple of blocks away and the wind was blowing in the right direction.
