Vice President JD Vance ruled out on Wednesday the possibility of the United States conducting a ground invasion of Iran as hostilities with the Middle Eastern country resume.
The vice president said that if there is going to be regime change in Iran, then it would have to come from the Iranian people and not outside forces like the United States.
“If the Iranian people want to rise up and change their government, that’s up to them,” Vance said during an appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience.” “But we’re not going to send 150,000 ground troops in order to accomplish a change in a regime. We’re not in that business anymore. We’re just not."
Vance also emphasized that the administration’s immediate goals are to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, protect the flow of oil and gas and prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

Who the hell told him it was OK to talk?
It's good to see our politicians aren't pretending otherwise even if people on FR still delude themselves otherwise.
Not in the business of defending against terrorism?
That’s probably why he thought the MOU was such a great thing.
Hopefully this Rogan interview is a one-off because otherwise it indicates he’s really not ready for primetime. Nothing is ever off the table for the US to fight those who want to kill us.
The MOU was a joke and it seems that he can’t admit how gullible he was in accepting it and instead of admitting his own faults, he decides to blame the Jews for it.
The goal is the lowest cost option of defanging the IRGC and then letting the Iranians kill them.
Hedge fund boy is telegraphic US strategy in bid to placate and retain his crumbling 2028 base. Meanwhile the Rubio train is eating his lunch.
I understand why Vance is saying this and a lot of people agree with him. I agree with him. Putting US troops in Iran would create a nightmare with massive casualties, trillions of dollars of spending, massive disruptions of the international system that we have no way to predict and no end of our commitment in sight. But Vance saying “no boots on the ground” is not a US policy to win the war. Its his job to articulate a successful US Iran policy - whether its winning the war or successfully negotiating an end to the war. He’s not a critic sniping on the sidelines. He’s the vice president of the United States. So him simply saying “no boots on the ground” is a cop out. OK. No boots on the ground. So how are you going to win the war?
Vance is getting over his ski’s. That is not his policy to assert and not his decision to make.
Trump has even recently stated he is not ruling out such options, he strongly prefers not to, but it remains an option.
Vance seems to be getting a little roguish lately.
“””” without AT LEAST the threat of a credible invasion force.””””
Not just Iran but “We’re not in that business anymore. We’re just not.”
That isn’t just a signal it is a formal policy announcement for regimes to work out new plans and methods for riding out a presidential term, more skill at manipulating images and global public opinion for example, something along the lines of the PLO type strategies.
Even if true, why should we be announcing our weakness in advance?
And what if we have to choose between the boots and an Iran with A-bombs?
It’s all political at this point. Tactically it’s impossible to win without it. Missiles will not solve this problem! Bombing campaigns will not solve this problem. Diplomacy will not solve this problem because the IRGC is ideological.
You’ve reached a stalemate and now remove the last piece of leverage you have from the table
All you idiots on here think he is speaking to you. This is all for Iranian ears, mixed messages to confuse and discombobulate them.
Keep your stupid mouths shut.
But Trump hasn't put boots on the ground, which is exactly what Vance said.
Good!
The goal must be the elimination of the Islamic Republic regime. Otherwise the war does not end, regardless of “deal”.
You are correct. But the “war” is not against the Iranian people. It’s against the terror sponsoring, oppressive mullahs and the maniacal IRGC.
The regime change must come from within or it will never happen.
EC
Agreed. DJT or JDV need to make public declaration to the effect:
We are not sending American men and boys to do what Iranian men and boys should do. Many of you will have to fight. Many of you will have to kill. And many of you will have to die.
“Putting US troops in Iran would create a nightmare ...”
I agree, and precisely guided, unmanned weapons, and high-resolution surveillance, means soldiers don’t have to be there.
It’s not wise to tell the enemy what you won’t do.
They can’t do that, because it makes it an absolute. That would result in the loss of Congress for the Republicans.
But that is the plan. Aside from special teams, invading the country on foot is the last thing they want to do.
