Pritzker for president? Handicapping the Illinois governor’s political future
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | July 13, 2026 | Tina S

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has consistently said he’s focused on winning a third-term for governor this November — and despite the speculation, those close to him insist he hasn’t made a decision on whether he’ll run for president in 2028.

But the governor is showing up in presidential polls, and he’s building coalitions with state parties while also strengthening his national name recognition. He has also explored future fundraising paths that don’t include self-funding — if a presidential run is truly in the cards.

Pritzker is on the list of names popping up on presidential polls, which the New York Times is tracking. He’s even one of six potential frontrunners they’re tracking as polls come in, with his numbers ranging from 1% to 7%. Former Vice President Kamala Harris has topped those polls so far, with Newsom, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro rounding out the top five.

Pritzker is trying to crash diet and lose massive amounts of weight. Since he already owns Illinois this diet is for a national audience.

I’m glad the Dems have turned on Fetterman because he would be their strongest candidate.

He could break Taft’s record as the fattest president ever if he tried a little harder.

Hopefully Illinois Republicans will not vote 3rd party. A Darren Bailey upset would take of Pritzker’s state and national ambitions.

Look up the word “shmuck” in the Yiddish dictionary and you’ll see his mug shot.

Pritzker is one dangerous man to run for National Office of any kind.

He bought himself a Governorship. He used his wealth to screw Bailey the last time by funding Bailey’s campaign against a black urban semi-conservative Republican who might have had a chance against Fatboi. He’s been awful for the state (which is why there are “Pritzker Sucks” signs all over it) - but it’s hard to deny his ability to use his wealth to win elections. You might say he’s put his money where his mouth is, but it’s jammed with food all the time.

Sadly, Darren Bailey is also damaged goods at this point. He lost a race for US Congress in 2024.

In both of his gubernatorial campaigns, Bailey has hurt himself by choosing running mates who brought nothing to the ticket. In the current campaign, Bailey allied himself with a hugely unpopular running mate with enough baggage scuttle the campaign.

Rahm Emanuel would beat Pritzker in a contest. Pritzker could be on a Wegovy drip line and it wouldn’t make any difference.

Pritzker can spend his time running all the private equity takeovers his family has acquired.

You're right, and in addition, Bailey is just too conservative for Illinois. He'd be ideal and win in a landslide if Cook and the other 13 counties that voted blue in the last election were to slide into the lake - or if the rest of us could split off and form our own state. Think about that when you criticize Illinois: 102 counties total, 14 blue and 88 red. See the problem?

I thought Timmy Tampon was going to Somalia to run for the new chief/medicine man of the Somali pirates and thieves.

He won’t win. But it will be fun when he comes out after the GLP-1 has taken effect and says, “How do you like me now?”

Another thread says an illegal sought by ICE was found in Pritzker’s back yard....I think they meant LITERALLY HIS BACK YARD.
