President Donald Trump said on July 10 that he will not sign a housing bill passed by members of both parties in Congress.

“I will not sign the Housing Bill, which has been fully approved by Congress and sent to the White House, in PROTEST over the fact that the United States Senate is not capable of passing THE SAVE AMERICA ACT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Ann Coulter said that the bill expands Section 8 housing for the govt to rent even more single dwelling houses, making it harder for married couples to find starter homes. The more starter homes are rented to the govt free-loaders, the less starter homes there are for young couples to buy who are doing it on their own.

If the Democrats vote in favor, usually it’s bad news.

The bill passed by a more than two thirds majority in both houses of Congress. If President Trump refuses to sign, isn’t that a pocket veto? If that is the case, then doesn’t the Congress have to pass it by two thirds of both houses to override the veto?

AFAIK The three rules are:

1. Congress remains in session, President has 10 days to veto.

2. Congress leaves session, president does nothing = pocket veto.

3. President vetos, congress is in session and can override veto by2/3 majority.

It’s been about 50 years since civics class....

The info from your cousin reported by his brother of a website no one ever heard of is pretty piss poor information.

The measure, known as the 21st Century Road to Housing Act, is the biggest change to federal policy for buyers, renters and homebuilders in decades, and Congress approved it with large margins last month after lengthy negotiations between Democrats and Republicans.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jul/10/housing-bill-becomes-law-without-trump-veto

The White House did not directly respond when The Independent asked if Trump’s announcement indicated his intent to veto the bill, which passed the Senate by an 85-5 margin on Monday and was advanced by a 358-32 vote in the House on Tuesday.

https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-affordable-housing-bill-voter-fraud-b3002297.html

There is a lot in the bill, but based on this anaylsis, nothing repating to allowing support for illegals. I don’t think it would have passed by wide margins, if such language was in the bill.

Surely Trump realizes that most of congress is actively working against him.

No, Congress is in recess and won’t return until Monday. If he does not sign it before the deadline while Congress is in recess that is a Pocket Veto.

It was sent to Trump on 29 June which started the 10-day clock (not counting Sundays). That makes midnight tonight a Pocket Veto by my count.

Just sayin.

A person has to be demonic to not vote for honest elections.

Right, it doesn’t mean a damn thing unless he vetoes it.

Why do illegals get any more than a bowl of beans and a ride home?

To be explicitly clear - because Trump *cannot* veto the bill today because Congress is not in session to receive the returned bill, he couldn’t explicitly veto it if he wanted. His *only* choices today, because it’s the end of the 10 day period and Congress is not in session, are to sign the bill or “pocket veto” the bill. Full stop.

So hold off on the TDS “Trump doesn’t have the guts to veto it outright” rhetoric. And read your Constitution.

Actually it is 10 days. But yeah that was my first thought. He either has to veto it or it becomes law anyways.
