Technical talks between the United States and Iran are ongoing despite recent strikes and apparent rising tensions.
A United States official confirmed to Townhall that “the United States is still committed to finding a resolution, and technical talks continue,” adding that “Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon.”
The official added that the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two countries last month “is performance-based, and Iran’s actions constitute failed performance at an unacceptable level.”
NEW: @townhallcom can independently confirm other reporting that Iran talks are ongoing despite recent strikes.

Technical talks with the Iranians continue, a U.S. official tells me @NewsNation
"The United States is still committed to finding a resolution, and technical talks continue. Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon."— Libbey Dean (@LibbeyDean_) July 9, 2026
“President Trump made his feelings very clear yesterday in no uncertain terms,” the official continued, as the president suggested the U.S. just “finish the job” and referred to Iranian negotiators as “scum” who are difficult to work with.
“Iran’s attacks on these innocent vessels are acts of terrorism,” the official added.
In response to cargo ship strikes by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. unleashed strikes on roughly 170 “Iranian military targets” on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“U.S. forces struck approximately 90 Iranian military targets including air defense systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure along Iran’s coastline,” U.S. Central Command wrote on X Wednesday night, stating that “the latest strikes follow successful execution of offensive strikes in Iran the night before.”

World War Three in slow motion.
* He came
* He saw
* He Iran
This is a waste of time. The only way to get Iran back to the table is to take out Kharg island and more IRGC bases. Even then I expect they would rather go down fighting. Even the Germans and Japanese knew when it was time to surrender but that will never happen with islamo fascists.
Shouldn’t you be over at DU?
OK, how do you say that in Latin so that Julius Caesar could understand it. :)
> World War Three in slow motion. <
In a way, that’s true. And this Iran thing is progressing in a way such that the conclusion cannot be predicted.
A. Trump wins, and Iran backs down. But Iran saves face.
B. Iran wins, and Trump backs down. But Trump saves face.
C. A compromise that makes neither side happy.
D. Endless war.
I wouldn’t bet a nickel on any of those four possibilities.
Dead men cannot make war.
If Iran wasn’t run by delusional radical ideologues we could have ignored them. Problem is, they are. They’ve been aggressive in the world since the beginning of their revolution. The only thing holding them back is that they have a limited capacity to project power in the world currently. They’ve been trying to deal with that by developing their missile program, and by their quest for nuclear weapons.
If you live relatively far away from people who hate you, you might be able to just live in your neighborhood and go about your life - ignoring them. However, if they are working to obtain the means to threaten you in your neighborhood your level of safety is at significant risk. This is particularly true if you sit back and hope that everything goes OK. Didn’t work for Europe in WW2, and might not have worked for us had be just let Hitler do his thing. Aggression continues until it’s stopped.
“Romanes eunt domus”
I don’t believe it is still happening.
President Trump has totally ended those exchanges after their last assault on 3 tankers.
Townhall is totally uninformed.
“World War Three in slow motion.”
In your imagination.
“D. Endless war.”
[But periodically]
Jihad has been proscribed for ~1400 years.
Is there a way to put the Genie back in the lamp?
Prescribed!

Yes. And that’s why I despise George W. Bush. I don’t just dislike him. I despise him.
Right after 9/11 the entire civilized world was with us. Bush had a unique opportunity to rally the West and crush Islam. Just as FDR crushed Imperial Japan after Pearl Harbor.
Instead Bush the Fool told us “Islam is peace.” Then he went on an idiotic nation-building exercise in Afghanistan.
(I’d better stop now. I can feel my blood pressure rising.)
We needed Pope Urban II.
“Is there a way to put the Genie back in the lamp?”
Well yes, just put the Genie in the lamp and shit in it.
Then fill the Imam Mahdi’s well with hog manure.
.
/sarcasm.
I am more amenable to Pope Pius II.
