For Ukraine, Other Patriot Makers Are a Cautionary Tale
NY Times ^ | July 9, 2026 | Jim TankersleyJavier C. Hernández and Christopher F. Schuetze

Two American allies, Germany and Japan, already have permission to build the American interceptors, a license that President Trump says he will also grant to Kyiv.

In 2022, as fears mounted over Europe’s missile defense capabilities against Russian strikes, the Biden administration granted permission for Germany to build a factory to manufacture state-of-the-art Patriot air defense interceptors.

That factory has yet to produce a single Patriot — a sign of the time it can take and how difficult it can be to ramp up production of American weapons abroad, even after winning approval from the United States government to do so.

It is a cautionary tale for Ukraine, whose leaders expressed confidence that they could quickly start Patriot production after President Trump said on Wednesday that he would grant Kyiv a long-sought license to produce the interceptors.

Feel free to post ANY example of Ukraine "selling" weapons given to them. Doesn't exist.

Ukraine has had the Patriot system since 2023

Three F-16s and a Patriot battery teamed up to kill Russia’s best fighter

The Ukrainian air force shot down a Russian air force Sukhoi Su-35 fighter over eastern Ukraine on Wednesday. If unofficial Russian sources are to be believed, the Ukrainians sprang an elaborate trap to take down the twin-engine, supersonic Su-35, which is arguably the best fighter type in Russian service.

Russian channels claimed three Ukrainian air force Lockheed Martin F-16 fighters drew the Su-35 into an ambush involving a Ukrainian air force Patriot surface-to-air missile battery on the ground. The Russian pilot reportedly ejected and was rescued.

The F-16s have their own on-board radars, of course, in the form of the APG-66 with an 83-km range. But the AN/MPQ-53 and AN/MPQ-65 radars associated with the ground-based Patriot system range around twice as far.

According to the Russian channel, the Ukrainians hauled their Patriot battery to within 60 km of the disputed gray zone, extending the system's detection range well into Russian-controlled territory. With the assist from the Patriot, the F-16 pilots could see the Russian pilot coming from farther away—and possibly take a shot at the Russian before he could take his own, most likely with an R-77 radar-guided missile.

It's also possible the Patriot battery itself swatted the Su-35 as the Russian jet was tangling with the three F-16s. In either case, the Ukrainians had the edge. "Unfortunately, we acted in a stereotypical way, but the Ukrainians didn't," Fighterbomber lamented.

A Russian Su-35.

Fire Point is a Ukrainian defence technology company headquartered in Kyiv.

Initially operating in makeshift workshops, the company rapidly scaled to multiple covert production facilities across Kyiv and surrounding regions.

The FP-7 is a tactical ballistic missile with an operational range of up to 200 km, a top speed of approximately 1,500 m/s, and a warhead weighing around 150 kg.

A FP-7 was tested on 28 February 2026, based on a Soviet S-400 missile system interceptor, the 48N6, it has been simplified. Using a “hot launch”, the missile “ignites its solid-fuel motor directly from the launcher and travels along an inclined guide rail rather than launching vertically”. While based on a Soviet-era missile, it is made of carbon fibre and has modern electronics. Using Ukrainian-made solid fuel, a hot launch could allow for a faster deployment and better concealment. The FP-7 is said to be half the cost of an ATACMS [~$1 million?].

Fire Point released footage of the test launch of the FP-7.x missile. This version of the FP-7 missile is planned to be an analog of the Patriot missile, to intercept ballistic missiles. The missile is solely designed to destroy ballistic missiles by the use of a kill vehicle with an estimated speed of “1500-2000 m/s” and a length 7.25 meters, Part of the European Freya anti-ballistic missile program, the missile has open architecture and can be used with Saab Giraffe 8A/4A, Thales Ground Master 400 or Hensoldt TRML-4D radars.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_Point_(Ukrainian_firm)

“According to Terekh, the FP-7.x performed a fully guided maneuvering flight during the test. The published footage shows the missile correcting its trajectory shortly after launch. Additional maneuvering phases likely occurred outside the visible portion of the video.”

https://en.defence-ua.com/weapon_and_tech/why_second_known_launch_of_fp_7_ballistic_missile_matters_so_much_what_ukraine_was_really_testing-18701.html

My opinion is Ukraine should modify its own missiles so existing suppliers and tooling can be used to a great extent.

Ukraine has been given the “right” to make US missiles in accord with Zelensky’s
abominable plan.....he wants to make Ukraine “another $300 billion Israel.”

Previously, Israel was given the “right” to manufacture certain US-origin armaments and military technologies, stemming from long-standing “bilateral agreements, licensing arrangements, and joint production programs.”

This appalling deal takes a few primary forms:

Licensing Agreements & Co-production: Israeli thriving defense contractors (Elbit Systems, IAI, and Rafael) routinely manufacture US-designed weapons—ranging from missile systems (like the Iron Dome) to aircraft components—under specific technology-sharing and licensing agreements with the United States.

Offshore Procurement (OSP): Historically, Israel has been the only US “ally” (that controls US foreign policy) that is allowed to use US foreign aid tax dollars to purchase equipment directly from Israeli thriving, profit-making defense firms....and not from American companies.

This outrageous move established a deep infrastructure for Israeli domestic production of US arms.

The US routinely “gives” Israel US tax dollar subsidized defense research and cutting-edge technology.

The obedient Congress also bows down in complete obeisance......using tax-subsidized legislative efforts.... and US laws..... lobbied to invent measures solely to benefit Israel.

Provisions in the US’ 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), have further sought to integrate Israeli technologies into the critical US defense supply chain...... which assuages taxpayers, touted as being driven to “protect” US families.

Israel is highly embedded in the production of many critical US defense technologies, yet it is still “dependent” on the US for providing “complete, highly complex weaponry” (like fighter aircraft) which the US and the obedient Congress supplies for free.

The will continue doing that, adding Patriots production doesn’t mean they shut down everything else.

No wonder you cut and paste everything, your own words make no sense, but you don’t need to drag Israel into everything, and if you do, you could at least shorten the posts, make them less repetitive, and make them more your own words and your own freeper posts.

sFeel free to post ANY example of Ukraine "selling" weapons given to them.

In August 2022 CBS reported only roughly 30% of military aid was reaching the front lines in Ukraine.

GOP Congresswoman Victoria Spartz who was born in Ukraine and has extensive contacts there, has also called out the Zelenski government for corruption and theft of military aid.

The Pentagram itself admitted it 'lost track' of over $1B in weapons and military tech in the first years of the war.

To say such evidence "doesn't exist" is a bald faced lie.

LOL, talk about "bald faced lie", so 70% of military aid was stolen? No.

All military aid reached Ukrainian military units, but only 30% went to frontline units.

According to Ohman, all military aid is divided among Ukraine's units, but only 30% went directly to the frontline as of April, while the rest went to other units or have yet to reach the frontline.

which doesn’t make sense, there is no stupidity in Ansel12’s writing. It’s in your writing. Forget Israel for awhile and instead, count your blessings in life.
