Obamacare premiums surged this year. A new analysis shows it’s likely to happen again in 2027

Middle-income Americans straining to pay for Affordable Care Act health insurance are unlikely to get relief next year, according to a new analysis that shows insurers in the marketplace are proposing a second straight year of double-digit premium hikes.

Across the 77 insurers in the ACA program that have submitted rate filings that are publicly available, the median proposed premium increase for 2027 is 14%, according to Wednesday’s analysis from the healthcare research nonprofit KFF. The insurers cited mounting healthcare costs, federal regulatory changes and the recent expiration of pandemic-era enhanced subsidies as the biggest factors driving premiums higher.

The rise in premiums adds to what already was a significant jump in 2026, when the median rate increase was 20%, according to KFF.

All by design. Obama has been out of office for what, 10 years? How convenient.

The medical systems we have now are the worst of both worlds - expensive and horrible.

And all other insurers are using this BS to drive up their non-ACA rates.... everybody piles on. Obamaumao the First’s gift that keeps on screwing the public while it supports the utterly worthless and props the rates up with our money. Cut off the program, watch the rates crash. They never got their money in the long closure of Schumer’s raid on our Country.

Bottom line insurance companies are not in the health care business they are in the business of profiting from collecting in more in premiums and deductible than what they pay out. The model is not designed for the patient but for the shareholder. Which is fair enough that has always been a model for the insurance business.

Any policy they have that contradicts this model has been forced upon them by government regulators. One way insurance companies stay solvent is by analyzing risks and adjusting premium costs accordingly. If the companies are no longer permitted to assign risk based on real case scenarios and charge a premium that reflects that risk they have no choice but to increase premiums universally. It stinks but insurance companies are in the business to make money not to be health care providers, (No matter how much they think they are the ones who should make your medical decisions.)

There is also the fact that people have gotten used to filing insurance for even the most minor of health care services. That will also increase premium costs. Insurance companies really want to keep your money for shareholders and not for your medical treatment.

Well then it’s an obvious failure, just like nearly every other socia, ist promise of the left. It has failed to live up to its ridiculous promises, and raising the price is proof of it. Socia, ism is VERY expensive and we tried to warn people, but nope, they got their ears tickled with promises of freebies and low cost med care, and voted twice for on of the worst presidents we’ve ever had, and now our nation is saddled with a V
FAILED healthcare system that will cost and arm and a l,eg to keep.

Health Maintenance Organizations are a huge rip off. Too many higher ups and ancillary businesses grabbing a cut of the money and exorbitant salaries!
It was better when physicians were able to do their own billing, etc. AND much cheaper with higher quality care.
Healthcare is run by a giant collection of leaches with those not actually involved with patient care making millions.
It’s downright sinful.
The pharmaceutical industry is a bunch of pirates too!
I refuse to watch their multimillion dollar TV add crap!!
YOUR PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY IS MAKING TOO MUCH MONEY IF YOU CAN RUN A FIVE F’ing MINUTE ADD ON TV.

Still waiting for Trump to repeal and replace Obamacare with something better and cheaper. Obamacare hit my employer with a new $500,000 per year tax, so he froze our pensions, hit us with a hiring freeze, wage & salary freeze, My wife, who was an RN at the time & who was covered under my plan was told she either had to take insurance she did not need with a $10/ hr pay cut or else work part time only. She chose part- time & retired in 2020. My deductible rose from $500 to $1,500.
Trump ran for office as a Republican without knowing anything about the party, presumed the country just needed a CEO to order Congress to do stuff, like subordinates. He presumed the GOP had a plan, or he could order than to invent one. ..not understanding that many Republicans don’t even want a plan, are constitutionally against all government healthcare plans or involvement in healthcare, or else they propose more tax credits and deductions.
Meanwhile, Obamacare probably was meant to divide and destroy, a new huge entitlement we could not afford, meant to crowd out SS, Medicare and Medicaid spending Democrats refuse to raise taxes to pay for when they have the votes, and Obama even raided the SS and Medicare trust fund to give tax refunds to people who pay no income tax. Boomers should be scared about their future, in my opinion. Some of us managed to buy homes and save some money for retirement, but Obamacare, national debt, and the New Democrat anti American socialist party cost us a lot already, and really wants us poor and dead.

I was in a supermarket today and the unpopular Obama’s still are being put on the cover of People magazine. The guy was a nothing president, a nobody….and he’s been out of office since forever ago.

Insurance does not work for inevitability….it works for possibility. People are living longer on Medicare and Medicaid. If you insure against flood or theft, death or disability, chances are you never collect. But we all get sick, injured, and die. Our American doctors are getting old and retire or die. Too many poor immigrants. Hospitals cannot turn away anybody, and vagrants use hospitals as flop houses, to get free drugs. Uninsured people show up at the emergency room and cannot be turned away and gave no money to pay. Insurers are forced to pay for trans gender care and for adult children up to 26 years old. More patients, fewer doctors. System is strained. Democrats are anti markets, anti capitalism, but GOP thinks markets are a God that will solve every problem, but markets are amoral. There is a market for contract killers, prostitution, child porn, chia pets…… and Obamacare exempts so called small business from its mandates, but Democrats claim most new jobs are created by small business, that it exempts from other mandates, too.

That is kind of a broad category. But in any case I don’t know. I honestly don’t follow the stock market.

That was true. It just turned out that most people didn’t like their doctor after all. It just took the government to open their eyes.

“Uninsured people show up at the emergency room and cannot be turned away and gave no money to pay.”

Not everyone who does not carry health insurance is a non paying patient. There are times when even when you have insurance you may find the company denies coverage.

I no longer view health care as failing. I believe it is broken. Maybe not a compound fracture but definitely a green stick one. It is becoming more difficult to find a doctor and when you do find one there may be a rather long wait to see him or her. I took me 2 years after being diagnosed with diabetes to see a endocrinologist. Fortunately I did have a home health nurse come after my discharge from the hospital to go over diabetes management. I also was not totally ignorant on the subject. But if that nurse had not been available it would have been more likely for me to experience a medical emergency.

“I no longer view health care as failing. I believe it is broken.”

The purpose of Obamacare was to break the healthcare system and make it so expensive the American people would demand the government take over the healthcare system. Once the government operates the healthcare system, government decides how care will be allocated and ultimately what medical care, if any, will be given to each person.

Euthanasia will ultimately be a service of any government operated healthcare system. Faceless unaccountable bureaucrats will determine if you live or die by determining if you will receive treatment. Choice will not be a feature of the system.
