A British criminal court on Friday handed down multi-year prison terms to two Romanian citizens found guilty of knifing an anti-regime broadcaster outside his residence, a targeted assault the presiding judge explicitly attributed to the directives of the Iranian government, The Associated Press reported.
Pouria Zeraati, a prominent host for the London-headquartered, opposition-affiliated network Iran International, survived being stabbed in the thigh during the March 2024 ambush outside his suburban Wimbledon home.
Zeraati later left the UK and moved to Israel, saying he feels “much safer" in the Jewish state.
Following a jury trial last month, a 21-year-old and a 25-year-old were convicted of wounding Zeraati with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
During the sentencing proceedings at London's Central Criminal Court, Judge Bobbie Cheema-Grubb emphasized that the “evidence overwhelmingly points" to the plot being orchestrated at the behest of Iranian leaders.
“I am sure that this was an attack carried out for and for the benefit of a foreign power," she stated.
British counter-terrorism and intelligence agencies have repeatedly warned that Tehran is deploying criminal proxies on UK territory to wage a campaign of intimidation against independent opposition journalists and Jewish communities.

Maybe the UK should consider abandoning its ridiculous open-borders policy.

I’ll field that one. It should be members of the royal family. They spend a few days each year waving from balconies. And that’s about all they do. So they have plenty of time to handle yard work around the country.
(As you can guess, I’m not a big fan of the royals.)

Iran is truly a bad actor.
We try to present everyone we don’t like as a “madman.” The theme of WMD, human rights, sovereignty, terrorism have been so aggregously abused by politicians and activists alike (today you have idiots calling people that question climate change “terrorists”) that they carry no weight with the public anymore, even when true.
Iran (talking about the leadership there) is damn near irrational, highly idiological.
Iran has no concern for its own people or human rights.
It is an expansionist, violent, oppressive, regime that has no true democracy and their “law” is some perverted / weirdo interpretation of Islam.
Not nice guys. Not merely misunderstood. Not a case where we contributed to the cause of this, other than exist and be present in the Middle East. Their repeated demand is that we pack up and leave the entire region.
Of course that’s so they can expand. We have been containing this shithole for 47 years essentially.
But it’s been oozing out: Nigeria, Yemen, Lebanon, Iraq. Of course with as late and little help from our euro allies as possible. The Germans were about to send a warship, then they heard a missile was launched and things have been delayed. You see, German warships have unionized personnel, and their leaders only deploy these “warships” when there is no war, or in support roles if there is a war. No, I’m not joking, it’s that bad.
If Iran gets their hands on a nuke, it will get lit, probably over Israel.
It’s just not even something fathomable, to imagine a nuclear armed Iran. I don’t think people are really thinking this through, what that means!

That would not be rational. But as you noted, Iran’s leaders are crazy religious fanatics. So, yes. It’s very possible.
I wonder if Israel has made this clear to the Muslim world: If Israel gets nuked, Iran will be nuked in return. And so would the Muslim holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
You have a herd of Carlson-ites here, who are aggressively shutting down anyone else. No bigee. I’m not physically fit to enlist, but I am intellectually more than their equal. I don’t need a herd. Glad to have another ally, though.
Most despotic leaders value power and/ or wealth. It seems that the religious fanatics in Iran are not in it for either of those. They do not fear death because they will be martyrs in their own eyes. It is very difficult to deal with people like that.
Less said about that the better, though they already know it.

Iran has assassinated numerous folks in Europe over the years.
