Electrocuted: Ford Reports 40% Drop in EV Sales for the Second Quarter

Ford announced a 10 percent decrease in U.S. vehicle sales for the second quarter with the automaker citing ongoing supplier issues affecting its F-Series trucks as a major cause of the shortfall. However, Ford’s EV sales dropped an astonishing 40 percent during the same time period.

CNBC reports that Ford suffered a 10.3 percent decline in its second-quarter U.S. new vehicle sales, the automaker reported Thursday. The decline was attributed to two primary factors: persistent supplier problems affecting the company’s crucial F-Series pickup truck line and a substantial drop in all-electric vehicle sales.

The Detroit-based automaker sold 549,200 vehicles during the second quarter, down from 612,095 units in the same period last year. Ford’s EV segment suffered particularly steep losses, with pure EV sales plummeting 40.7 percent compared to the second quarter of the previous year. This sharp decline reflects broader challenges in the electric vehicle market as consumer demand has cooled from previous years.

The company’s flagship F-Series trucks, including the popular F-150 model, experienced an 11 percent sales decrease during the quarter. These losses were directly linked to production constraints stemming from aluminum supply shortages. Ford’s top aluminum supplier had been forced to restart production following two separate fires that occurred late last year, creating a ripple effect through Ford’s manufacturing operations.

The law of unintended consequences.

If they built something akin to the original Ford Rangers or Chevy S10s, they'd sell millions. However (as usual) the government wrote pollution laws which exempted rolling sheet metal mills with huge engines. The government laws essentially prohibit the original Ford Ranger or Chevy S10 because those vehicles would be held to a tougher emission standard than monster trucks.

Bad news for Ford, but good news for me.
I make eco-friendly sail cars. I’m sure to pick up the greenie customers Ford lost.

I think the new Maverick small pickup is selling well. I don't have experience with them, but they appear to be similar to the rangers of the 80's.

Comparing the Slate EV small pickup to the maverick, for about the same price or just a little more, you could get the Maverick with 4x4, great towing capacity, hybrid, and more cabin features.

Not sure the pure EV sales are there, at least for pickups. I did hear Tesla increased sales by 25% in 2Q.

“as consumer demand has cooled from previous years.”

What consumer demand? It cannot “cool” because it never existed. This is especially true for the truck market. No one wants an EV Truck and no one ever did.

The Taliban has a wider selection of pickups than Americans.

The car chargers at BucEes sit mostly unused. So much money spent on such a stupid idea…

I don’t know about all EV trucks but I can tell you from personal experience that Ford Lightnings are complete POS.

Hey, it’s eco-friendly. It helps to save the Erf.
Functionality plays no part here.

The federal EV tax credits for both new and used electric vehicles ended completely on September 30, 2025.

I guess they don't see that as a factor...

Haahahaha! It works well, but just imagine what tacking on the 3 lane highway would look like if EVERYONE had sails and had to tack when the wing was right!!!!

Thank you for that post-I saw the image of the car with the sail, and went “Eh. Okay. Kind of funny...” and went on, but when I saw your post, it lit the image I had in my head on fire!

If it’s accurate (who knows?), that’s saying 60% know what’s good for them, 40% are still in the dark...
