Peter Thiel stuns liberal Aspen crowd, warns democratic socialists will take over their party

ASPEN, COLORADO — Billionaire Peter Thiel stunned a largely liberal audience Tuesday at the Aspen Institute's Ideas Festival with a warning that democratic socialists are taking over the Democratic Party.

During a panel discussion about the direction of humanity, Thiel lamented the cultural, technological and economic "stagnation" that has taken place in recent years, something he considered to be "very destabilizing" in the long term.

He argued that the "haywire" effects of that stagnation trickled into politics.

"My generation was the first one where things felt really stuck," Thiel said. "I think millennials are doing less well than their boomer parents. It's even more deeply felt in Gen Z."

"And then, if we think about this in political terms, it's what's pushing us to try to find solutions outside this sort of very narrow, very narrow box," he continued. "And then, there was the Republican version that manifested with Trump and a repudiation of Bush-neocon consensus."

"And I think the Democratic version, to those of you who are, you know, the liberal Democrats in the audience, that I ask you to take more seriously, is I think there's going to be a democratic socialist takeover in the Democratic Party," Thiel said. "And it's not just a irrational, angry outburst. It is this really, really deep frustration at this stagnation."

The billionaire's comments drew audible gasps among the progressive attendees.

"And the Republican Party doesn't matter that much because it's the less important one. When the Democratic Party goes, this country is over," Thiel added.

The folks in the audience are doing very well financially.

They are deeply out of touch with the majority of young people.

A simple analysis of the cost of living compared to wages a few decades ago compared to today for the average American is very sobering.

Real wages have gone in the toilet for the bottom 75%.

This is a real cost of technological advancement, outsourcing of manufacturing to cheap labor markets, a horrific immigration policy and a horrible education system—and there are no quick fixes.

Cheerleading or name calling is not going to get it done.

Modern institutions, including governments at all levels, are too infested with bureaucracy to deal with major problems.

Will the millions of Indians we brought over to take all the white collar jobs fight for this country?

All long-standing political parties or even religious organizations must eventually deal with challenges to ideology and leadership from “fringe” groups.

Clear principles are thus absolutely necessary for any such organization to survive for long, and even then, it usually doesn’t work.

Democrats holding cultural, political and financial power in Washington DC for the past 60 years has made them fat and happy and lazy. What is their core ideology? What defines a “democrat” and what doesn’t? They don’t ask these questions

Now the radicals and ideological weeds have taken root. Will they take over the Democrat Party?

A time for choosing is upon them

Will they take over the Democrat Party?

Yes they will.

Jeffries and Schumer will be replaced by AOC and Omar.

“Modern institutions, including governments at all levels, are too infested with bureaucracy to deal with major problems.”

Absolutely. Add in there healthcare, as well as primary, secondary, and higher education. It’s all too top heavy with bureaucracy, too expensive, and too paralyzed administratively to fulfill its missions properly.

As always they ignore Generation X. That generation seems to be still working hard and pulling what is left of the country out of the gutter, where the boomers (hippies portion) dumped it. Gen Z has a right to be upset. The hippie leftist boomers destroyed any future Gen Z could have. Guess Gen X is lucky - they may well be the very last generation to understand and participate in the American Dream. RIP.

Gresham’s Law: “bad money drives out good.”

Goes for politics too.

Conquest’s Second Law: “Any organization not explicitly right-wing sooner or later becomes left-wing.”

Corollary: any left-wing organization sooner or later becomes more left-wing.
