Numerous new California laws signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom take effect July 1. One requires every school district in the state to adopt a policy limiting smartphones on campuses, and another overhauls the confusing maze of expiration date labels on grocery store shelves. Here’s a rundown of the laws that will impact the lives of California residents.

- ‘Sell by’ dates are banned. Here’s what’s on grocery labels now.

- California just overrode local zoning near transit stops

- Waymo vehicles can now get a traffic ticket

Out of control government is way out of control.

California just overrode local zoning near transit stops

"Transit stop" meaning a bus stop sign - a huge boom to developers to erect massive apartment buildings in single family neighborhoods.

The worst one of all...courtesy of idiot Jerry Brown - gas tax increase linked to inflation every July 1st in perpetuity:

California gas-price misery continues as higher tax kicks in

"The state’s excise tax on gasoline, at 61.2 cents per gallon, surges to 63.4 cents per gallon on July 1."

When I was teaching, the parents were as big a pain in the butt as the kids were about using phones on campus.

The kids were always on them and when we tried to address that, the parents insisted that they needed to be in constant contact with their kids.

In the middle of all that was parental denial that their kids would ever do anything contrary to the rules.

I guess they don’t have much of real importance to worry about - which is strange for a state with so many real problems.

Since it’s California, will Waymo vehicles of color be exempt from tickets?

California would be hard pressed to prove it hasn’t failed at everything.

I know I’m stuck in it.

It’s the only reason why I buy lottery tickets no matter what the odds are.
