President Trump announced on Tuesday that the Republican Party would hold an unusual midterm convention in September in Dallas as he seeks to mobilize his party before the fall elections.
Party conventions are typically held only in presidential election years. But Mr. Trump became enamored with the idea of a splashy midterm convention last year, and party officials have been planning the logistics of the event for months.
The convention will be held from Sept. 9-10, Mr. Trump said.
“It has never been done before, and will be a truly Historic Event,” he wrote on Truth Social, his social media platform, adding, “We will also have lots of Great Entertainment — It will be a RALLY like none other!”
The New York Times previously reported that Dallas had emerged as the likely site of the convention.
The party that holds the White House has historically lost ground in midterm elections, and Republican officials see the two-day convention just ahead of early voting as offering the party a large platform to make the case to stay in power.
A list of featured speakers and candidates was not immediately announced, but Mr. Trump said the event would feature “innovators, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, first responders, and job creators.”
Mr. Trump’s approval ratings have dropped sharply since his second term began, and some Democrats are eager for a convention where vulnerable Republicans in battleground states and swing seats will yoke themselves to him.
In the Trump era, the Republican Party has underperformed in elections where Mr. Trump himself is not on the ballot.
Democrats had briefly considered holding a midterm convention of their own, but the Democratic National Committee decided against such a pricey event.

I don’t like the Dallas idea, superstitious I guess.
They were likely more concerned about the ascendant new Left speakers who the nation would see and hear, spouting socialism and fatalism.
Why, here’s a leaked picture of ultimately canceled the Dem speaker line-up.
Quick look-up shows Trump in Dallas six times since 2015.
Absolutely pointless. Trump just wants another big rally. Pure vanity and waste of money.
Any Republican running for office should be home campaigning (assuming Congress and state legislatures are not in session), not cosplaying as a clapping seal for Trump.
Trump will become a terminal lame duck the day after the midterm elections. The attention will shift to the 2028 candidates, who will set the agenda and define the party going forward.
The GOP is going to have to send in an intervention team with tasers and nets to drag Trump off the stage. When the 2028 National Convention meets to annoint the new nominee, Trump will try to make it all about himself. If the Republican nominee wins, Trump will try to upstage the inauguration.
How many millions of dollars will be wasted on this “convention”? And given that it takes a serious professional team over a year to plan and stage a national convention, what kind of ersatz event will this turn out to be. It will be a glorified Trump campaign rally and nothing more.
Waste of time. Waste of money.
“It will be a glorified Trump campaign rally and nothing more.”
.
DUH.
.
I’m sure it will be fantastic. I wish I could go.
To run anything even remotely approximating a real convention, the RNC would have to spend tens of millions of dollars. A month out from the election, I can think of better uses for tens of millions of dollars.
Maybe Trump will get the Saudis to pay for it.
Let’s see:
Sept. 9. NFL season opens with a Super Bowl rematch between Seattle and New England.
Sept. 10. 49ers vs. Rams in Australia.
Why did they pick those days? The bigwigs in the GOP-don’t they have a clue?
Trump is going to be the 2028 candidate. I'm more sure of this than ever.
“Why did they pick those days?”
This is what I found regarding the dates.
The RNC scheduled the midterm convention for September 9 and 10 to maximize early-voting momentum and mobilize low-propensity voters ahead of the general election. This early fall timing allows the party to showcase President Trump’s accomplishments and galvanize the Republican base during a crucial window after the primaries conclude.
Not only will Trump make himself the point of everything, he’ll also probably drag out Lee Greenwood and the Village People music so he can stand there rotating his hips. No doubt he’ll brag about the arch, his ballroom, and the rest of the stuff he’s been wasting his time on.
I heard his initial reaction to the Court decision on birthright citizenship. It was almost a ho hum response. I doubt he even realizes the implications. I suggest he focus on getting legislation through the Congress, particularly the SAVE Act. His executive orders are ephemeral; once he’s out of office his Democrap successor will sweep them away.
We are in deep trouble and according to Roberts, Barrett, and the Commies on the Court, our citizenship means absolutely nothing. Anybody can qualify for it. I’m sure my ancestors who fought in the Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, and served in the Armed Forces afterward are turning over in their graves at what these idiots and traitors on the Court have done.
“Trump is going to be the 2028 candidate. I’m more sure of this than ever.”
Not possible but I wish he could.
Trump will become a terminal lame duck the day after the midterm elections. The attention will shift to the 2028 candidates, who will set the agenda and define the party going forward.
Being a “lame duck” didn’t stop Obama. Or Clinton.
He is a smart guy, in spite of all the sad, TDS guys on this site.
The President can shut down all visa applications immediately. Also new immigration. We are in a “war” currently.
Not.
>> Absolutely pointless.
You’re a fool. NO understanding, just selfish motives. History is replete with your type.
>> I’m sure it will be fantastic. I wish I could go.
I’ll be there if I can. Was a delegate for the TX state convention. These are MUCH MORE than just “pep rallies”. They are where the work in the trenches is planned, and the grassroots has its opportunity to flex its muscle. BTW, in Texas at least, the grassroots (i.e. the bottom-up government that the Founders envisioned) is turning the tide agains the “Expert” Elites.
And we have the electoral VICTORIES to prove it! Example: the bastard Assistant Democrat Cornyn is OUT!!!
I just hope people show up for it. I’m not so convinced that this fairground thing they did has been that successful. Yes people are enjoying it but it’s not like there’s hordes of people there.
