Socialists take fight west, target Colorado in latest bid to oust Democratic Party establishment
Fox News ^ | June 30, 2026 | Paul Steinhauser

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is setting its sights on Colorado.

A handful of Tuesday's primaries in the Democrat-dominated Rocky Mountain state are the next battleground in the fight between the far left and the center-left establishment over the future of the Democratic Party.

"Today, the East Coast, next week the Mountain West," the DSA wrote in a social media post last week, hours after their ballot-box victories in a handful of congressional primaries in New York City.

The post came after DSA-aligned Darializa Avila Chevalier, a 32-year-old far-left community organizer, ousted incumbent Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat, chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and state Assembly Member Claire Valdez, another democratic socialist, won a congressional primary by defeating an establishment-backed candidate.

The victories by Chevalier and Valdez, who were heavily supported by democratic socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, further emboldened the far left as it takes on the center-left establishment in a high-stakes battle for the future of the Democratic Party.

The DSA is now looking to replicate its playbook across the country, starting Tuesday in the Democratic primary in Colorado's 1st Congressional District, a solidly blue seat anchored in Denver that then-Vice President Kamala Harris carried by a whopping 56 points in the 2024 election.

Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette, who was first elected to Congress three decades ago, is facing two primary challengers, including DSA-backed Melat Kiros, a first-time candidate and former attorney born four months after DeGette first took office.

Kiros, who lost her job as a lawyer in New York after writing an essay critical of Israel, is supported by Justice Democrats, the nearly decade-old political group known for heavily supporting "Squad" members Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib as they toppled entrenched incumbents in their initial elections to Congress.

I predict that Colorado will go communist. I lived there for over 20 years and saw the slow creep pick up speed.

Interesting how they are being allowed to take over the party. Proving the Dems are truly Dumocrats

I feel like people on FR aren’t scared enough of these outright Communists who are taking over the democrat party. They will get power and God help us.

Very sad.

I went there for the first time last year for a few days and loved it.

I’m really wondering about this. At what point do the dems pull the emergency handle?

I understand that there are already dems that are communists. But (I hope) there are some that aren’t, and they’re not going to like these people being in their “tent”.

Do the communists just kick them out?

“Melat is also currently earning her doctorate in public policy from the University of Denver while working as a barista to pay all of her bills and student loans.”

She’d give you a copy of the “Daily Worker” with your coffee if it was still published.

There is an internal battle in the dimrat party.
Socialists vs. Communists. (DSA).

I would bet that the dsa is being funded by the Chicoms.

You are correct. These people are psychopaths and will not stop until they have total control. They are not normal people and we have to remember that. They want us dead. Period.

I’m afraid the Democratic party set themselves up for this. It’s a conclave of old white heterosexual hacks. They decided to knit together a constituency of gay, blacks, communists, socialists, hippies, artists, pedophiles, illegal aliens and outright criminals. And they thought that all of those people would be happy to be represented by a bunch of old white people because...diversity...or something.

If I was them, I’d start creating fights between the various groups, so they exhaust themselves fighting each other. (Blacks hate gays, lesbians hate trans, Mexicans and illegals hate blacks. Setting up some tension should be easy.) Unless they do something they’ll all be out of office. Even if they succeed, they are mostly so old they’re going to age out and go away naturally. The time to act is yesterday. But taking this route will also weaken the party. But even a weaker party will still have better access to the funding machine and the public teat more so than if they lose power completely.

“we already had close to 100 people that were super engaged and ready to hit the ground running for Melat.”

This engagement fed directly into Kiros’s remarkable results in the Democratic Party caucuses and assemblies that provide candidates one path to ballot access for Democratic primaries. So dominant was Kiros’s presence in these bodies — usually sleepy and dominated by party insiders — that DeGette, the incumbent for almost 30 years, came within a few votes of being denied a spot on the ballot.

Kiros said on a June 11 National Electoral Commission call that “I think we have the largest field program in the state — and that is entirely because of the organizing from Denver DSA.”

“This victory belongs to every person in Denver who has been showing up to community meetings, talking to their neighbors, and demanding better from their representation
...
Denver has changed
...
Rents have doubled. Healthcare costs are crushing families. And for 30 years, our congresswoman has cashed checks from corporate PACs while the people she represents fall further behind. Today, Denver Democrats said: enough.”

https://www.coloradopolitics.com/2026/03/15/degette-challenger-melat-kiros-trounces-15-term-democratic-incumbent-in-denver-delegate-vote/

There were “questions about whether everyone who cast paper ballots were eligible.”

Perhaps Democrats and Republicans can SAVE themselves.
