Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s 2028 options grow after socialist wins in New York
Washington Examiner ^ | June 26, 2025 | Mabinty Quarshie

The Democratic Socialists of America‘s shocking wins in New York‘s primaries not only solidified its growing power among the Democratic base but also fueled speculation that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) could mount a successful run for higher office.

Two DSA-aligned candidates, backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, took down incumbent Democrats Tuesday night in a similar manner to Ocasio-Cortez’s defeat of 10-term incumbent Joe Crowley during the 2018 midterm elections.

Darializa Avila Chevalier defeated Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), the chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander defeated incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY). State Assemblywoman Claire Valdez also defeated Rep. Nydia Velazquez’s (D-NY) preferred successor, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso.

The primaries immediately put the Democratic establishment on notice that DSA members, of which Ocasio-Cortez is included, are no longer waiting their turn for power and can successfully oust senior Democrats. Topping the list of outstanding questions after the DSA sweep is Ocasio-Cortez’s own future.

Ocasio-Cortez could mount a challenge against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in 2028, or, given her popularity and ability to fundraise, she could launch a 2028 presidential campaign.

“AOC has a massive platform already and all eyes are on her,” said Kaivan Shroff, a political communications expert who worked on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. “She doesn’t need the Senate, and it would be a waste of her momentum and also missing the moment to not run for president.”

She doesn’t stand a chance on a national level.

Bear in mind that she beat Crowley in the 2018 primary with just 29,778 total votes, 7% of eligible voter.

All that’s needed to stop this crap is to get people to vote.

no chance nationally—for which I hope she runs—but a strong shot to beat Schumer.

She’d receive huge exposure in either candidacy, but national exposure would be good for us when challenged and dismantled around the country.

It’s your time, darlin’

She’ll walk into Chuckie’s seat. He’ll quit. No sense losing. It would be fun to see the 2 of them fight it out but he’s getting too old to continue. Ask Durbin.

As a public service, I checked out a few “progressive” websites during the 2024 presidential contest. Many folks there were lamenting that AOC was too young to run for president at the time.

Well, AOC is over 35 now, and good to go.

If she did run, she’d implode even worse than Kamala did. Unless she could put together a really good team of handlers. Including voter fraud experts.

Still, her candidacy would seem ridiculous. But so did the candidacy of a Muslim radical for mayor of New York City.

I don’t see Chuck Schumer surviving the next primary. Dan Goldman was the canary in the coalmine. This doesn’t mean it will be AOC challenging him. He could even decide to retire.

I don’t get the AOC phenomenon at all. She gets elected and is an immediate celebrity. Soon everyone knows her by her initials. There are members of Congress from around here who labor in relative obscurity, but she is always in the news. She is a dimwit who has accomplished nothing in life that would commend her for a position of public responsibility and who got her political philosophy from the DSA Reading List. To be dazzled by her, you have to be as shallow and superficial as she is. Unfortunately, there are plenty of people just like her, and they vote.

Concurring bump...Chuckie will likely try to engineer his own replacement, but the DSA will have their own hat in the ring regardless.

Sadly, the Democrats have lots of people like this.

I said the exact same thing about Kamala as i watched her rise through the democratic ranks here in Northern CA. Never doubt the pure stupidity of the average voter.

Darializa For Congress

What We Are Fighting For

Everyday, we see more & more of our neighbors pushed out of our community because of rising costs & a political establishment that has sold us out.

We’re fighting to stay here and live full, dignified lives in the city we call home.

Darializa will sign onto these bills to secure housing as a human right, universal healthcare, union protections, a $15 minimum wage and more.

Darializa will fight to abolish the deportation machine, expand pathways to citizenship, secure free legal representation for immigrants, and more.

Darializa will fight to divest the billions of taxpayer dollars we spend on senseless wars abroad, and invest those funds in child tax credits, baby bonds, and more.

Darializa will fight to protect all tenants, fully fund Section 8, fully fund NYCHA, prevent deed theft, and build affordable housing.

Darializa will fight for Medicare for All: a free, universal system that covers primary and mental health care, dental, vision, hearing, reproductive care, long-term care, and lower prescription costs.

Darializa will fight to protection workers’ rights, increase union density, raise the minimum wage, fund social security, to create and protect job opportunities, and more.

Darializa will fight for our right to free, quality public education from childcare to college. She will support and defend teachers, graduate students, and other education workers.

Darializa will never take money from corporate PACs, and will fight against monopolies, price gouging, and super PACs.

Fetterman is the best of that bunch. But he has made enemies on the radical left.

And here’s what’s worse. I know some older Democrats in PA. They are turning against Fetterman, too. They believe the propaganda the radicals throw against him.

I don’t know if Fetterman will even be able to hold his Senate seat come 2028.

“12. NJ Senator Cory Booker
13. Senator Booker - NJ”

I certainly hope there are two of them.

I’ve read that worms can split in two.

I said the exact same thing about Kamala

She didn't become vice-president based on public support. And she certainly wasn't elected to take Biden's place as the presidential candidate. Then she lost ... of course.
