We haven’t had one here in southern California in a long time. Some small ones but that’s it.
Is it smarter to be a renter in the SF Bay Area?
The San Andreas Fault is at a stress level not seen in 1000 years and could go at any time.
God is getting angry (only half not serious.)
Is there going to be a really big one in CA soon? They are overdue for a big shaker.
My brother lives in Coos Bay, Oregon and they felt the NorCal quake!
There’s been smaller quakes going on off the southern Oregon coast for weeks now. I think California is going to get a humdinger.
It’s smarter to not live in the Bay Area.
The Pacific Ocean ring of fire.
The continental plates between Asia and the Americas have been a lot more active, for a long time, than the plates between North America and Europe (with the point of Iceland - smack in the middle - being the exception).
The continental plates on either side of the Pacific are very slowly moving toward each other, with the Pacific Ocean very slowly narrowing. While the plates on either side of the Atlantic are slowly moving away from each other with the Atlantic ocean slowly widening. We will not notice the difference in our lifetime, and during any other future generation they will not notice it either; the oceans will seem very much unchanged in their short life spans. Only cartographers who kept records for thousands of years will ever report how vast the change “was” from now till then.
I remember a few years ago when there were earthquakes going off and there were folks theorizing that the United States had a secret weapon which could cause earthquakes.
Dang! I remember that huge quake in 1989 when the freeway just collapsed.
It was in Santa Cruz, I think.
Doesn’t look good
