A flu outbreak at the Air Force's basic training hub in San Antonio is worsening, according to two sources familiar with the situation.
As of Tuesday, at least 222 recruits at Lackland Air Force Base, part of Joint Base San Antonio, had been diagnosed with the flu and four had been hospitalized, the two people familiar with the matter told ABC News.
This marks a sharp increase from the 159 cases and two hospitalizations reported last week. The death of one recruit remains under investigation, though it is not yet clear whether it is tied to the outbreak, the sources said.

Recruits that DIDN’T get the flu shot when arriving for basic training? ODD....except I asked my Pulmonologist if I needed the flu shot and he said “NO, it’s not doing any good this year.” Is that what happened here?
Not too long before I went to basic, there was a meningitis outbreak and the USAF temporarily moved basic to Amarillo AFB. I still did mine at Lackland.
When I was inducted into the Army in 1967 (that’s right, 1967) I got so many shots I couldn’t count them. My present MD thinks a flu shot’s a good idea. Don’t have any reason to object, so I think this is a good idea.
Lackland,
Keesler and then
March AFB.

1970’s and in SoCal...
Lucky to have survived.

Welcome Home to All that did and
Salute to Those that didn’t.
Amen
I haven't done a flu shot since 1989 and I haven't had the flu since 1990 - worst case I ever had, but none since.
It's universally acknowledged that each year's flu shot mixture is a crap-shoot because of the rapid rate of virus mutation/changes and the fact that they have to guess which strain(s) will be dominant, much earlier in each year, months before they can roll it out.
"Effective" usually means 50/50 AT BEST for any given strain of flu, any given year. Often less.
Did they determine that recruit had the flu and that was the cause of death?

W ... T ... F ...
The ‘flu’ shot alters the victims’ DNA to create a protein spike, plus the snake venom. So they’re crippling our troops from day 1.
Isn’t the flu shot for last years flu ? LOL
Are flu shots effective for people your age? I’ve read that they are not.
The evidence that universal flu shots modify outbreaks is pretty weak.
mRNA flu shots are in development but not in use.
Influenza virus does not have a spike protein.
Soldier men getting the flu. Where do we get such men.
We need a vaccine!!!!
F U and your fl U shots!
Have we learned NOTHING? My wife got a flu shot this year and promptly got sick!
NO MORE VAXXINES! (except old timey PROVEN vaccines)
The last time I got a flu shot, I was in the hospital for weeks. I haven’t gotten it in over a decade (nor have I gotten the flu) and beg my family to do the same.
Since they haven’t released the cause if death this is fear mongering from media
I may be wrong but it seems unlikely a 20 something would die from flu
Without some underlying cause.
“My present MD thinks a flu shot’s a good idea.”
…what were his thoughts on the COVID jab?
