United States Mint to Produce Limited-Edition Fourth of July Declaration of Independence Quarters

WASHINGTON, June 23, 2026 — The United States Mint (Mint) will produce 250,000 Semiquincentennial 2026 Declaration of Independence Quarters featuring a special "July 4th" privy mark in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. Bearing no mint mark, these unique quarters will be placed randomly into circulation, offering Americans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to discover a piece of history in everyday transactions.

“This is more than a coin; it’s a defining moment in our nation’s story,” said Mint Director Paul Hollis. “We hope Americans enjoy the search for these iconic quarters as they’re meant to be shared, saved, and remembered as part of this historic anniversary.”

Randomly mixed in with other 2026 Declaration of Independence Quarters, these 250,000 special “July 4” quarters will be made available to banks and financial institutions nationwide in time for the Fourth of July. Customers can learn more about all the Semiquincentennial coins and medals by visiting the Mint’s website.

Since only 250K of them are going into general circulation, the odds of finding one — especially in mint condition — will be astronomical.

That’s fun. Didn’t say where they’re minted. Kinda like the old “plain” coins that now have “P” marks. I’ll watch for them.
I still haven’t seen any of the new coins in circulation, though I did just receive my silver proof set this week. Nice designs for the most part.

WASHINGTON, May 25, 2026 — The United States Mint (Mint) will begin shipping the 2026 Semiquincentennial Quarter honoring the Declaration of Independence to the Federal Reserve for distribution to commercial banks and financial institutions on June 1.

The Declaration of Independence Quarter obverse (heads) features Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence and third President of the United States. The inscriptions are “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “1776 ~ 2026.” The reverse (tails) depicts the Liberty Bell ringing. While it is unclear whether it rang out in July 1776, the Liberty Bell often rang to draw people near and share an announcement, or a declaration. The Bell’s crack is visible; the fragility of the Bell echoing the fragility of a young nation at its founding. The inscriptions are “THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE,” “QUARTER DOLLAR,” “LIBERTY,” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”

Authorized by the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020 (Public Law 116-330), and signed into law on January 13, 2021, by President Donald J. Trump, these coins commemorate 250 years of American Liberty by reflecting our country’s founding principles and honoring our Nation’s history.

Make sure to get your special Semiquincentennial quarter!

I think not. It's a slug, nothing more, and it'll be circulated so the collector value drops as well. Real ones are available, but they won't be in circulation as they're too valuable. They cost!

The 2026 Semiquincentennial (250th-anniversary) quarters are issued by the U.S. Mint in multiple versions. For general circulation and standard mint rolls, they are struck in traditional clad metal. For premium collector sets, the Mint strikes them in 99.9% fine silver. And at the mint...for five silver quarters... The complete 2026 Silver Proof Set, which includes all the Semiquincentennial quarters, costs $245 from the U.S. Mint. Another illustration of the devaluation of our "money".

“ traditional clad metal”

They certainly have a funny definition of “traditional”.

The half dollars are beautiful. Any coin with full face (not profile) is butt-ugly.

It’s not mint condition once it’s out in circulation.

You are assuming that most won’t be siphoned off right at the source and never actually get into circulation.

But officially they will be circulated and are not “mint”.

You’re right, so many will hoard them and it will end up being worthless (will be anyway).

A couple of years ago my little daughter (born 2018) was learning about money and I was telling her about wheat pennies and how we'd look for them when we were kids back in the '70s. It got me wondering how many might still be in circulation, or if I'd ever run across one again.

Sure enough a few days later I made a purchase and was handed back some change. Instead of slipping the coins into my pocket like I usually do, I took a look, and sure enough, there was a 1951 wheat penny in my hand. I put it in a special pocket in my wallet and am looking at it now.
