Soot-choked “black rain" has fallen across multiple districts of Moscow after Ukraine launched its largest-ever drone assault against the Russian capital, scoring a direct hit on a vital energy facility. Close to 200 long-range strike drones targeted the metropolis early on Thursday, overwhelming local air defences and setting the strategic Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya ablaze. As thick columns of dark smoke billowed thousands of feet into the air, residents in the southeastern suburbs and surrounding towns, including Balashikha and Lyubertsy, reported a fine, oily drizzle that coated vehicles, streets, and clothing in a dark, toxic residue.
The multi-directional aerial barrage marks a significant escalation in Kyiv’s campaign against Russia’s domestic energy infrastructure. Social media platforms were quickly flooded with verified footage showing a fuel storage tank detonating at the Kapotnya facility, a blast so powerful it launched the massive metal lid of the structure high into the sky. The refinery, operated by Gazprom Neft, is a critical piece of infrastructure that supplies approximately 40 per cent of Moscow’s petrol and half of its diesel fuel. Its disruption immediately triggered traffic closures and forced temporary flight suspensions across the capital’s major airports.

Last night, our long-range sanctions once again reached the Moscow region – for the second time this week, the Moscow oil refinery was hit. Targets were also struck in the Rostov region and in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. This is a fully justified response to Russian attacks on our cities and communities, and another important result of our warriors’ work against facilities that sustain Russia’s war machine. I thank our Defense and Security Forces of Ukraine for their coordinated efforts – the Security Service of Ukraine, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Special Operations Forces, Defense Intelligence, and our missile brigade for their precision.
In recent days, all of our partners have noted the precision and effectiveness of our mid-range strikes and long-range sanctions. It is time the war ended, and Russia must take the necessary steps in diplomacy.

The costs of Putin's war are being brought home to the most privileged parts of Russia's population. And any Ukrainian hit in Moscow damages Putin far more than any Russian hit in in Kyiv.

Yes, but... never ever underestimate the factor of becoming pissed off, and being weary, impatient and fed up with an ongoing war and wanting to ‘end it’ finally.
A couple of well-placed nukes in Ukraine ‘would’ create enough damage to accomplish that and I don’t put that past Putin, should he desire to finish Ukraine off.
Once Putin used nukes, other nations would be ‘encouraged’ to follow suit to solve their little problems. This is my biggest fear right now. That things will escalate to a nuclear “”solution””.
