A Trump-backed pastor is preparing to drop out of Oklahoma's Republican primary after the Daily Mail exposed his intimate relationship with a campaign aide.
Jackson Lahmeyer's campaign manager last night told his team that the married father-of-five was dropping out of the race and taking a sabbatical from preaching, sources told the Daily Mail. A formal announcement is expected Friday.
Lahemeyer and his wife Kendra invited their congregation to a 'closed meeting' at Sheridan Church in Tulsa at 6.30pm Wednesday.
Donald Trump hours after the news broke shared on Truth Social that he was switching his endorsement to Lahmeyer's rival State Representative Mark Tedford.
'I greatly appreciate Jackson Lahmeyer’s hard work under difficult circumstances - He has always been with me, and I will always be with him. But, when it comes to the current Congressional race for Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District, I will be supporting America First Patriot, Mark Tedford,' Trump said.
The Daily Mail has contacted Lahmeyer for comment.
Lahmeyer, the runaway frontrunner just a week ago, was forced into a runoff last night when he failed to clear the 50 percent threshold to win Oklahoma's 1st District, finishing with less votes than State Representative Mark Tedford.
