Karmelo Anthony's family told CBS News that they believe the trial was unfair from the start. Now Anthony's attorneys have filed an intent to appeal.
A day after the trial, Karmelo Anthony's parents, Andrew Anthony and Kala Hayes, sat down to break their silence and let the world know how they're feeling as their son begins his 35-year sentence for murder in a state prison.
"My son is no murderer," Karmelo Anthony's mother says after 35-year sentence Despite what a jury found, his parents dispute that their son ever wanted to kill Austin Metcalf.
"My son is no murderer," said Hayes. "My son didn't intend to hurt anyone. My son was defending himself, and that's what hurts so bad."
His mother recounts the moments she addressed the jury and made her plea to them during the sentencing phase.
"To have mercy on my son. That's what I told the jury," she said. "I know they had their minds made up already; there really wasn't much I could say to change their minds."
Both parents fought back emotions and tears as they described what they believe was a flawed trial.
"We were delusional," said Andrew Anthony. "We thought we were going to get a fair shake."
They claim there were inconsistencies from the get-go, despite witnesses who took an oath to tell the truth.
"Everyone lied on the stand," Hayes said. "All of the witnesses' statements were inconsistent. All of them."
Father says Karmelo Anthony was "already convicted" in the public eye His father says the court of public opinion had made up their mind about Karmelo Anthony long before this trial began.

They collected over $600K for legal defense and couldn't have spent more than $50K on it. Encouraged him to plead not guilty with no case presently badly. Defendant did not take the stand claiming self defense. Defense witnesses said Karmelo started the confrontation and wouldn't say it was self defense. Only defendant's mother testified for him at sentencing. Parents didn't show up at sentencing. Used him to collect money for new house and car and let him plead not guilty with a terrible case and a mediocre lawyer.
Is this black priveledge that he has a right to kill a white person. In the old days, defendant and his parents would have been strung up by now. It has gone too far the other way.
This is not unexpected. It’s just what families do. After all, Himmler’s daughter spent her whole life telling everyone what a swell guy her father was.
Anthony’s family would step over the line if they explicitly make it about race.

Intentionally brings a knife to a place where he knows he is not supposed to be, refused 15 times to leave when asked makes a threat of elevating the encounter to a physical level when asked directly to leave a place he was not supposed to be.
21 witnesses state everything above was true form their observations, the video clearly supports the murderer was not threatened by a gang of kids and he did indeed attack an unarmed individual with a knife, a knife that had no business being on his person in the given situation.
This is as clear a case of premediated murder as one can experience. The parents are race grifters claiming a perpetual victim status to excuse their poor choices and hateful desires and refuse to accept they raised this murderer to do exactly what he did.

No, you’re living a reality. Think about everything that could have been done differently that could have prevented one death and one prison sentence. That’s a more useful exercise than insisting everybody else in the world is wrong.
What silence? Since when? And why is CBS News giving them a megaphone when everyone knows their kid is guilty of at least manslaughter. Karmelo is not innocent of anything much less a victim.

It's telling how far and fast our society has declined when a kid who is on tape casually murdering another kid with a knife for no reason can become a civil rights tool can get so much traction and become a cause celeb and ascending civil rights icon in the black community.
The Anthony family wants to become profession race vicitims to keep the donation money flowing to them for the rest of their son's incarceration.

While this is infuriating, they forgot to add that the multiple videos available to the jury were also lying.
I am concerned for the safety of the jury members.
Curious what his appeal is based on. They’ll soon find out “because I dindonuffin” isn’t a legitimate reason to appeal a verdict.

His family would be saying the trial was unfair even if they had been in the tent, Austin Metcalf had been in a coma, and they had watched Karmelo saw Austin’s head off.
Caromello stepped into that tent with a knife in his pocket and a chip on his shoulder. The rest is history.
The parents created a toxic world in which it was OK to murder a young white guy for any perceived disrespect. The parents nurtured a murderous young son. This is ALL their fault. Look at what trash they are in using all the donated money to improve their personal lifestyle and pleading POVERTY to get free legal help.
The parents could have disciplined and harshly punished this young man’s early behavior to teach him the proper moral way to live.
