Russian MP warns Putin: We’re on the brink of social collapse

A Russian MP has demanded that Vladimir Putin deliver a plan to end the war in Ukraine as he berated the Kremlin's "ineffective leadership".

In a lengthy tirade, Vyacheslav Markhayev listed corruption scandals, oligarchy, losses of the "most active and reproductively capable segment of the population" and Ukrainian drone strikes among the ills plaguing wartime Russia.

"The time of illusions is over. The country is on the brink of a social explosion, and the blame for this will fall squarely on the entrenched ruling power," said Mr Markhayev, a deputy of the State Duma from the Communist Party.

"If the situation persists, social unrest and chaos will become more likely. The West will inevitably exploit this to destroy the remnants of Russian statehood."

The deputy joins a growing list of public figures who have broken from the official line to voice criticism of the authorities.

Late last month, Renat Suleymanov, a State Duma deputy from the same party, called for the "earliest possible end" to the war, saying the economy could not "withstand" its continuation.

In March, Ilya Remeslo, formerly a staunch Kremlin loyalist, turned against Putin, branding the Russian president "a war criminal and a thief", and calling for him to be put on trial.

I hope Markhayev has a one story dacha and a world class glazier.

Even in the conduct of war, capital replaces labor.

Indeed.

Jim Bianco on X: Russian Central Bank Head Elvira Nabiullina has been missing from public view since May 28

She has been clashing with Putin over wartime inflation and military recruitment spending. She is resisting intense pressure to cut rates and effectively print money to fund war spending and massive soldier bonuses to meet recruitment goals (because casualties are soaring in the Ukrainian war).

So, what happened to her? Two possibilities:

1. Given Putin's desire to run hyperinflationary policies to meet recruitment bonuses and war spending, and her policies of tight money to control inflation, she's just protesting (for now) by staying out of the public eye and away from her office.

2. "For Now" is over, and she has "accidentally" fallen out of a window.

Do you think Ukraine is any better off in terms of:

GDP?

Debt?

Birthrate? Russia: 1.4, Ukraine: .8!!!!

Yes, .8

Source: https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SP.DYN.TFRT.IN?locations=UA

It is among the worst in the WORLD, and this article talks about, of course, Russia.

Refugees and migration? Do you realize Ukraine lost 1/7 of their entire population just from people fleeing that place?

Like the Russian casualty stories, while we never mention any Ukrainian casualties. Junk.

But it makes you feel good.

So it must be true and there can’t be another perspective or context other than Putin bad, Russia losing.

Cliche,

Russia actually has news articles that are negative regards the war. Go to Yandex (A Russian based search engine) and you can find all sorts of things that are negative. You have anti-war protests in Moscow.

But in Ukraine... Nope-

Again, Russian casualties, Ukraine has none.

Not to defend Putin…but he has to have his “Bernie Sanders” too. The opposition is always a pain in the ass.

That said, I have to wonder what the people of Russia really feel about this war dragging out this long. They must be wondering how long it’s really going to take.
