U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with Middle ‌Eastern leaders and attend a working ‌session with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy during the G7 summit in France next week, senior U.S. administration officials said on Saturday.

Officials said Trump would meet separately with the ‌leaders of Egypt, Qatar, United Arab Emirate, France and India. No bilateral meeting was planned with Zelenskiy but the two leaders could meet on the sidelines of the summit, they added.

Trump planned to raise ‌issues of shared importance with leaders at the summit, including economic growth and development, supply chain resilience, illegal migration and AI, one of the officials said.

It’s like spelling Gaddafi, there’s no “correct” way to spell it in English.

Born in Kryvyi Rih into a Russian-speaking Jewish family, Zelenskyy obtained a law degree at the city’s Institute of Economics, but instead pursued a career in comedy and entertainment. Zelenskyy co-created the production company Kvartal 95, which produced films, cartoons and TV shows, including the TV series Servant of the People, in which he played a fictional Ukrainian president. The series aired from 2015 to 2019 and was immensely popular. A political party with the same name as the TV show was created in March 2018 by Zelenskyy and other associates of Kvartal 95. During his 2019 presidential election campaign, Zelenskyy positioned himself as anti-establishment and anti-corruption, and had already been a frontrunner in opinion polls months before he declared his candidacy. He won the election with 73.23 percent of the vote in the second round, defeating Petro Poroshenko in the biggest landslide in the history of Ukrainian presidential elections. His party won a landslide victory in the snap elections held shortly after his inauguration.

Its Ukrainian spelling Зеленський is romanized Zelenskyi, Zelensky, Zelenskiy, or Zelenskyy, and originates from the toponym Zelene (Зелене), meaning ‘green’.

I tend to use ‘sky’ for Eastern European names.

It is my understanding that Russian IDs use two spellings for non-Russian names. The spelling in the person’s language and a Russian transliteration.

With the implementation of mutual recognition of electronic signatures between Ukraine and the European Union, a need to transliterate the Ukrainian alphabet into Latin arose. This ensures that personal data in digital certificates issued by Ukrainian providers of qualified trust services can be properly recognized and processed in EU electronic trust systems. Such certificates (including those based on RSA and ECDSA algorithms) typically contain names and information written in Cyrillic, a script not used in most EU countries.

To address this, an official transliteration table was introduced, enabling the accurate conversion of personal names, place names, and other data from Cyrillic to Latin under Ukrainian legislation (Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 55 of January 27, 2010, “On streamlining the transliteration of the Ukrainian alphabet in Latin”).
