The “sweetest” elderly Mississippi couple were allegedly killed by a teenage burglar who then shot at cops during a six-hour standoff while barricaded in the house, according to authorities.
Billy Blair, 74, and his wife, Virginia Carol Blair, 71, were killed after 17-year-old Cordarius Hobbs broke into their home last Wednesday, WLBT reported. Hobbs has since been charged with capital murder.
Cops swooped on the Mendenhall home just after noon for a welfare check after worried relatives couldn’t make contact — but they encountered gunfire upon their arrival.
The burglary was already taking place when police arrived and the front door was open. It’s not clear how long Hobbs had been inside the house.
Hobbs allegedly told cops he would surrender at the front door before escaping via the back of the Blairs’ home.
Hobbs bolted out of the property after cops fired tear gas, said Bailey Martin, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesperson.
He allegedly fired at four different cops as well as an infant. Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey said those who were shot at were “pinned down by gunfire.”
Hobbs was shot by a trooper during the standoff and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was arrested after being chased by officers. The Blairs, who ran a tire business, were described by their pastor Andy Fullington as “the sweetest couple” who “had such a beautiful spirit about them,” WLBT reported.
“They walked with the Lord. They have left behind a beautiful example, a shining light,” he said.
“We’re going to miss them so much, but we know where they are and that gives us great comfort.”

Hobbs appeared in court last Friday and faces 13 charges, including burglary and capital murder. He’s facing a slew of assault offenses.

Actually l guessed it without the name.
Cordarios’ parents will undoubtedly claim it must have been a matter of self defense just as claimed in the recent Texas murder case by yet another black 17 year old.
Once he shot at the coppers, it awas open season. I guess the bag limit had been exceeded. No reason this POS is still alive.
So, 17 I guess means they cannot exterminate this vermin.
Mississippi has the death penalty. So unless some weak-kneed DA offers a plea, I expect this monster to be executed.

Oh, how I despise those naive do-gooders who stand in the way of quick and fair justice.
I’m guessing this case won’t get quite the same sort of MSM attention that the Karmelo Anthony case did.

Unfortunately, the police and deputies are always at the short end of justice.
That puts all good people at risk.
I remember the rookie female Chicago police officer in pain in her hospital bed after being shot by a perp. "He aimed his weapon at me and I aimed my weapon at him but the thought ran through my mind 'I don't want to be the next news headline of a cop shooting someone' so I hesitated. Then he shot me in the abdomen and I went down."
Officer was white. Perp was not.
