Members of a federal task force shot two people when an undercover firearms purchase went sideways in suburban Country Club Hills on Tuesday, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. A total of five people are now in custody.
The shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of 189th Street and Loretto Lane. In a statement, ATF said an ATF special agent and a task force officer, identified by other agencies as a Chicago police officer, fired their weapons after undercover agents were confronted during what authorities described as an attempted armed robbery.
“On Tuesday, at approximately 5:30 p.m., during a firearms trafficking operation in Country Club Hills, an ATF Special Agent and a Task Force Officer discharged their firearms in response to an attempted armed robbery of undercover agents, striking two offenders,” the agency said.
Both wounded suspects were taken into custody and transported to hospitals for treatment. Authorities said they were in stable condition Tuesday night. Three additional suspects were apprehended at the scene. Officials have not released the identities of the suspects or the officers involved.

Illinois has a continuous operation on gun issues. Many agencies and task forces are involved. They actively seek out people to trap into illegal sales. This may have been a rip off by the alleged perps but that it started as some type of manipulation would not surprise me at all.

Happens all the time in IL. The gun laws are so convoluted that it’s easy to find people that don’t understand them. If you own a gun in Il plan on dying owning it. Make sure to get it in your will though. Even that’s not enough to prevent issues over transfer of ownership.
