He has said he gets free health care and about $4,800 a month for a variety of injuries connected to his military service, including “a couple herniated discs,” injuries to his shoulders and knees, and post-traumatic stress disorder. He’s gotten a 100% disability rating from the VA, he said.

Ping!.............
I did not know this!..............
Because its been well documented historically that a Senator can be brain-dead while in the Senate.
100% disability doesn’t mean you can’t work. So I’d leave the VA out of any discussion unless it’s fraud against the VA with this POS.
“ How can Graham Platner run for Senate with a 100% VA disability rating?”
He’s running as a Democrat. In a Democrat state. That’s how.
Just a couple of herniated discs? If he were running as a Republican senator he could be missing his spine altogether.
What!? If he really has PTSD he doesn't have the ability to be a senator. According to the internet:
PTSD can significantly affect judgment and decision-making abilities. Individuals with PTSD may experience difficulties in processing information, leading to impulsive and irrational decisions.”
Do you really think it's appropriate to have a senator who makes impulsive and irrational decisions?
If he lied to get that diagnosis or he really has PTSD - either way he should be disqualified.
The gifts keep on giving....
Stupid headline. A 100% disability rating does not preclude an individual from being able to run for the Senate or work.
I would venture 90% of VA “disability” payments are fraud. Just based on my personal experience with friends who are getting checks every month.
Right. As I have seen it, that 100% means his disabilities/diseases are 100% related to his service work, not that he is in fact 100% disabled in real life. PTSD, for example, might be totally from combat and can be quite significant in a vet’s life, perhaps even preventing one from holding down meaningful permanent work, but his physical condition could still be totally not disabled (can walk, talk, think, perform daily health duties, etc.). Perhaps another veteran can put it in perspective for us.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
It would be interesting to see how he came by a 100% rating. There are many combat veterans from Vietnam and Korea who saw very heavy action as infantrymen and never bothered to apply to get a rating. I can certainly understand why guys like Jeremiah Denton, James Webb or Duncan Hunter could be VA rated. What was Graham’s application for.
Years ago, I ran into the father of one of my students. It was a sunny day. He told me he was just at a street fair, and later on he was going for a nice long walk in the park. Then a day of fishing tomorrow.
Me: Oh, so you’re on vacation?
Him: No. I’m 100% disabled.
I don’t think it was a VA disability. And maybe he really was 100% disabled.
But for someone who couldn’t work, he sure had energy to do lots of stuff.
🤔
Oh, I totally understand that being awarded a 100% doesn’t prevent any one from working. I’d be more concerned about him losing it one day in office and killing someone. Which is apparently one of his drivers for enlisting.
John Kerry ‘earned’ 3 purple hearts after a semester in Viet Nam.
Eagleton all over again.
New poster boy for the dems.
Yes. Totally agree..
PTSD is one of the most over-diagnosed maladies. It’s usually code word for drug user, alcoholic or loser. Just a way to grift off the taxpayers.
