Trump Hits the Stalemate Phase of His International Interventions, and It Stings
The New York Times ^ | June 1, 2026 | David E. Sanger

Posted on 06/01/2026 6:22:52 AM PDT by Timber Rattler

President Trump likes his military and diplomatic victories quick, clean and decisive.

(snip)

But now, Mr. Trump has hit the stalemate phase of his presidency.

The war with Iran is clearly at that stage. When he declared a cease-fire on April 7, Mr. Trump said on social media that the end of combat operations would be conditional on “the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz.” It wasn’t. Even if commerce now resumes across the strait under a memorandum of understanding still under negotiation, it will still leave the future of Iran’s nuclear and missile programs exactly where they were in February: stuck in a further negotiation that the administration insists will be “time limited,” probably to 60 days.

(snip)

Then there is the Ukraine war, a conflict in its fifth year that Mr. Trump famously boasted he would end in 24 hours after taking office. Sixteen months after he was sworn in, he rarely mentions the war anymore, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently complained that he was tired of wasting time in endless negotiations, suggesting that he would be perfectly happy if some other country wanted to step in and play that role.

(snip)

And there is Gaza. When Mr. Trump flew to Israel to celebrate the release of the last of the living hostages from the Oct. 7, 2023, terror attack, he enthused about a 20-point plan that started with the disarming of Hamas, the creation of an international stabilization force and, ultimately, rebuilding Gaza into a gleaming territory of glass office towers and seaside resorts. Eight months after that trip, Hamas has still not disarmed, except in fake, A.I.-generated videos.

So what does Trump do now, with the mid-terms on the horizon?

The blockade is working, while gas prices are now coming down.

I’m not sure of an immediate concern.

“Trump has hit the stalemate phase of his presidency”

Just another lib reporter sharing a warped fantasy.

Rooting against America has never been anymore en vogue by the despicable left as it is today.

Gas prices are coming down because the gas is being diluted with more ethanol. I recently posted an article about this.

I just saw gas at $3.15 a gallon at a Circle K and $3.19 a gallon at a Marathon, in a smaller town in Indiana.

A friend told me of $3.25 a gallon at a station, near him, down in Texas, as of yesterday.

These prices have radically come down.

I wondered about that. Usually, the pumps have a sign or a sticker that states "May contain up to 10% ethanol." I gassed up a couple of days ago, and there was a sticker that stated "Contains 10% ethanol." Seems the "may" part has disappeared.

That may be, at some stations, but not at least two of the three I just gave prices on.

The NYT has admitted to lying to achieve their pollical ends.

As far as the NYT goes, true journalism is out and political goals are in.

I wouldn’t pay to much attention to what the NYT says...

I also counsel Feepers to not post articles from the NYT.

Agreed. It’s more informative to read Jeff Childers’ column about Sanger’s hit piece.

In WWII it took two atomic bombs, sending the Japanese civilian death toll from previous firebombings to over half a million before the Emperor Hirohito finally ordered a surrender (and, even then, some military leader were ready to overthrow Hirohito and fight against the anticipated Allied invasion of Japan, even if that cost another million Japanese lives in a suicide defense).

While the current Islamic leaders of Iran don't want to be killed like their predecessors, they would be willing to sacrifice a large amount of Iran's civilian population to further unite Muslims throughout the world in opposition against the U.S.

This puts a serious crimp in the number and type of options that would provide a workable solution against Iran.

As for the notion that we can somehow get the Iranians to rise up against their leaders and install some kind of peaceful democratic government, it is more likely that one could teach pigs to sing.

Furthermore, as a reminder, in the U.S. we (including gutless coward RINOcrats) are barely holding on to a republic against the onslaught of Demonicrats and their terrorist forces. The traitorous Demonicrats are even trying to destroy any celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

If he does not defeat Iran decisively, his presidency is doomed.

People really need to understand how the media propagandists play psy-op games with you every day. NYT and Sanger are at the top of the list.
