Speculation is mounting over the fate of Brig. Gen. Ali Azmaei, the newly-appointed commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, following reported US strikes on the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas.
The Iran Watcher, a conflict monitoring group, said "unconfirmed reports" suggest Azmaei “may have been targeted and possibly eliminated” during the strikes, though Iranian authorities have not publicly commented on his status.
The IRGC has neither confirmed nor denied the report as of posting time.
His reported targeting, if confirmed, would represent a significant escalation in tensions and another major setback for Iran’s military leadership, according to the war monitor.

🚨 Early speculation suggests Brigadier General Ali Azmaei, the newly appointed commander of the IRGC Navy, may have been targeted and possibly eliminated during the Bandar Abbas strikes.
Azmaei is a senior IRGC naval commander best known for leading the IRGC’s 5th Naval Region, a strategically critical force tied to operations in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz.
If confirmed, the reported targeting of such a senior IRGC naval figure would mark a major escalation and another significant blow to the Islamic Republic’s military leadership structure.
With the IRGC Navy leadership still in transition after former commander Alireza Tangsiri was eliminated during the war, Azmaei had reportedly assumed a major operational role.
🚨 Massive explosions reported in Bandar Abbas, including a suspected drone attack targeting a vehicle.
Multiple local reports indicate explosions are once again being heard in Bandar Abbas amid ongoing tensions and military activity in the region.

The IRGC Navy has been undergoing a leadership transition after the reported killing of former commander Alireza Tangsiri during the conflict, with Azmaei believed to have assumed a key operational role in recent weeks.
Analysts say the loss of another senior IRGC naval commander could further disrupt Iran’s military command structure at a time of heightened regional instability and ongoing fears of wider conflict across the Middle East.

Make Iran Persia Again.
If I was a high ranking officer in the IRGC, I’d kick the next officer I see in the nuts and beg for a court martial and be busted to private and be sent to Adak Alaska. Just cross me off your list DJT.
I think someone lied to me about women behind every tree. There ain’t no freaking trees up here.
He could pass for Al Green’s brother. To be rid of both in one week is too sweet
I like the idea of hitting them every time they raise their head and/or when they start blocking the straight.
First, we illuminate;
Then, we eliminate!
Much more effective and fun than exploding pagers. “We know where your Generals sleep!”
Really? More significant than all out war?
I don’t know. You call yourself Gulf News. Go do some newsing.
“ His reported targeting, if confirmed, would represent a significant escalation in tensions…”
Um…. All their starters and most of the 2nd and 3rd stringers are dead, and so is the coach. Getting one of the regional naval commanders is just another drop in the bucket.
Fingers crossed
A title without a command. Also, likely a title without a commander.
I hope so!
I can’t be the commander, I put in for a transfer. WTF? Hey! Hey! Don’t point that at me, I’m just leaving. The next SOB that puts me in charge I’m gonna Eff them up. Period.
I just did some research about the rank structure of the IRGC and, specifically, of its navy.
A Brigadier General (Sardar‑e Sartip) - like the supposedly eliminated Ali Azmaei discussed in this article - is equivalent to a two-star general (a NATO "major general"). The next-lower rank is "Second Brigadier General" or "Sartip Dovom").
The "Sartip Dovom" rank was newly created a few years back to "stuff" the ranks, so one could reasonably argue that it, in fact, represents a "1-minus" star rank.
One could also question why a "general" - instead of an "admiral" - would command a navy, but...
Am looking forward to the day when it is announced that the new commander had been a lieutenant (junior grade) only the day before!
Promotions certainly are fast in the Iranian Navy! And the survivors' death benefits are generous!

Because of the wind, there are no trees on Shemya. Someone transplanted a tree in front of headquarters building. Before the wind took it, someone snapped a picture of one of the few women on the island peeking out from behind it.
Whack a mole, Islam is the head of the snake
The Bee, of course, did a bit on this😂
