WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump will meet with his Cabinet on Wednesday at a precarious moment for talks aimed at ending the war with Iran, just days after insisting that his administration and Tehran had “largely negotiated” a settlement but with the negotiations still in a state of flux.
As he prepares to huddle with his top aides, Trump is projecting confidence that he's closing in on a deal that will reopen the Strait of Hormuz and provide him a credible argument that Iran’s nuclear capability has been diminished enough to declare victory, winding down a conflict that's been politically unpopular for Republicans.

My worry is that he might take a deal that allows Iran to keep kicking the nuclear can down the road. I have to have faith, I suppose , that Trump knows what he is doing and won’t take the easy out. I suppose we’ll know by tomorrow.
Stopped reading at Ape Pee via MSN13. Should’ve stopped at Aamer Mahdani.
Headline did it for me.
I’m going to wait to make an opinion. I’d like to know, in general, how the cabinet feels about this whole situation. They all had to know that politically, this was going to likely to be bad. No one wants us involved in the ME militarily.
It seems to me that Iran is going to have to make some kind of concession for us to save face.
Right on.
👍
Some people say something about something they know nothing about and hasn’t happened yet.
My position....
This entire thing was a huge mistake for America and was only done to benefit Israel. EVERY legitimate analyst who has spoken publicly on a potential war with Iran for the past 20 years correctly predicted exactly how it went down.
The only reasonable way forward is to:
*Accept our loss
*Bring our assets back home
*Allow the Mullahs to charge a $2M "fee" per vessel until their damages are recouped
*Go back to Obama's deal with them which contained their Uranium enrichment at 4%
*Hope and pray that the other gulf states sign on to the Abraham accords so that Israel is placated for a few years until another Republican is elected and they try to use our military to attack their enemies again.
Hopefully by then the purge from the Republican party of Israel worshiping Neocons will be complete and the future President will not be compromised enough to be forced into it.
Sorry but if this conflict ends with the mullah regime still in power, the Strait of Hormuz not secured and with only the promise that the enriched uranium will be turned over, then by all standards its a big win for Iran and at best a futile exercise for the United States. The spin will not impress historians or current day Americans.
Nope. A long and established record tells me that what follows is pure crap.
However good or bad the final deal, Trump will declare "total and complete victory" and "we achieved all our objectives" and "this is the greatest, most beautiful deal in the history of America."
I think that if we don’t get what we want that this war has inoculated Iran to further attempts, this is the world’s last big push to fix them, nothing this big and costly in money and political cost will be launched again in an effort to change them.
“that some backers worry will embolden Iran” - the same backers who are afraid of the 7 foot tall space aliens being covered up by the CIA, and who also worry about the collapse of the Thwaites Glacier that will put all cities under water within the next 4 years. I don’t think the Iranians are very bold after their entire government and military was destroyed.
Trump has wanted these fu@kers for a long ,long time. Trust Trump not to give in when he has them in a head lock.
So true. I only wish more people on our side get this through their heads befogged by media bull puckey. Patience, after all, is a virtue.
Oil is down in the $70s so who cares?
New hat.
You need to move to Iran and live under the IRGC.
