The United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran are on the cusp of reaching an interim peace deal to end the conflict that began with Operation Epic Fury on Feb. 28.
President Donald Trump had initially indicated that he was “50/50” as to whether or not strikes against the Persian state would continue. On Saturday afternoon, Trump issued a statement on social media stating that a deal had largely been finalized.
🚨🚨🚨Scoop: President Trump tells me he's "solid 50/50" on Iran deal or bombing. Trump said he will meet senior advisers today to discuss latest draft agreement and may make a decision by tomorrow. My story on @axioshttps://t.co/jDHZtqUqT4— Barak Ravid (@BarakRavid) May 23, 2026
According to a statement from U.S. President Donald J. Trump, following a call with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain, an agreement, surrounding the current memorandum of understanding on the table, “has been largely negotiated.” Per the statement from President Trump, the final points of the deal are now being discussed and “the Strait of Hormuz will be opened.” Trump also spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to fill him in on recent developments. Further announcements regarding the deal are forthcoming, per the president.

In the hours before the news broke, key figures in the Trump administration flocked back to the White House as Trump led a conference call with leaders of the Gulf states. Vice President JD Vance made an impromptu flight back from Ohio, while Secretary of War Pete Hegseth returned from West Point.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed concerns about the negotiated deal to Trump, and reportedly pressured him into launching another wave of strikes against Iranian assets. Opinions from other regional leaders on whether or not Trump should continue the strikes were mixed.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is highly concerned about the current peace deal under discussion and has urged President Trump to launch another round of strikes against Iran, Israeli officials tell Axios.— OSINTdefender (@sentdefender) May 23, 2026
🚨Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told me that some leaders in the region urged President Trump to strike Iran to weaken the regime and get a deal on better terms.
🚨On the other hand, he said, other leaders in the region and some of the president's top advisers urged him to take the deal that is on the table.🚨Those voices, he said, claimed the Strait of Hormuz can't be secure from Iranian influence and that if Iran is attacked it has the ability to destroy substantial Gulf oil operations.
🚨"Count me as a strong skeptic that Iran can't be prevented from terrorizing the Strait of Hormuz and that we can't defend vital interests in the region after massive attacks against Iran - if they have been truly obliterated they shouldn't be able to do either," he said. "Time will tell. I am hoping for a good outcome still"

Trump never should have stopped the bombing.
I don’t believe the deal is what they are presenting. I am guessing ( admittedly wildly) that something else is cooking. Like maybe all those middle eastern states will join together to destroy the Iranian state. It is clear those states will not have a robust economy, or be safe from nuclear threats, with current Iran leadership in power. So Iran has to go. Probably an external U.S. backed invasion from some gulf states, and internal war with the Persians, and Kurds.
Keeps u.s.”boots off the ground” and allows for possibility of Persians running a non-nuclear Iran that won’t threaten neighbors.
A wild guess, I admit.
Trump should have never started the war if he can’t finish it or didn’t intend to
HISTORICAL MISTAKE and we will pay for it down the road. This was our lasty chance to stop a nuclear Iran. UNLESS...Trump is playing Iran’s game.
He could have had this deal weeks ago
Neville Chamberlain American style
Any peace deal that leaves the current rulers of Iran in place, will effectively make them the superpower in middle east, and hand the region to China.
I hope PDJT understands this, and is planning real regime change.
Then again ... I am sorry to say, the United States is no longer the same nation that sent her finest onto the beaches in Normandy.
Trump is trolling the psychomullahs:

LOL!
He’s giving them the “Greenland” treatment.
Whether or not a deal is “close” remains to be seen!
The more Trump talks, the more Iran digs in.
I don’t know what the deal is, so I’ll hold off on pre-judging it. But we should not have started this conflict unless we intended to win. I expect terms of the deal to be to our advantage, nor Iran’s.
I. like your ideas. Very possible, very smart.
Contact the White House and have someone give them to Trump. Hopefully he’s going in this direction now
This is an Iranian victory; not only did the regime survive but they keep their nuclear program and are funded while they rearm; seems a lot like German rearmament leading to WW2 only this time it would be nuclear.
Iran agrees to give up ‘nuclear dust’ stockpile in deal with Trump: report
Yeah, that really sounds like he is ready to strike a deal. As someone who is proved right again and again says, "Don't take Trump literally, but take him seriously."
I like your wild guess. Hope they are working ut a deal with other interested countries .
Always had misgivings about Trump, turns out to be a Democrat at heart...
