SC Senate advances redistricting map, sets final vote for Tuesday

South Carolina senators moved a step closer to approving a new congressional redistricting map Saturday, fast-tracking the process to pass the proposal on second reading after days of debate.

The unexpected move came late in the afternoon, as lawmakers opted to advance the bill ahead of schedule rather than continue debating through the night and holiday weekend. The decision sets up a final vote early next week, with Tuesday’s third reading expected to be the decisive stage.

Along with advancing the new map, the proposal would delay U.S. House primaries to Aug. 18. The South Carolina Election Commission estimates the delay would cost roughly $5 million to administer.

The Senate is now off until Tuesday, after initially planning to return Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of the surprise fast-tracking of the bill, earlier in the day senators invoked cloture, limiting each lawmaker’s speaking time to one hour. Republican Sen. Larry Grooms of Berkeley County led the push to speed up the process.

“The quickest we can move forward … would be sometime Wednesday or Thursday,” Grooms said, referring to when the bill could reach the governor’s desk.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

As of just 3 days ago, the SC Senate was saying they weren't going to vote for redistricting. It seems their voters send them a message of "Look at Indiana RINOs" because they quickly changed their minds.

Jim Clyburn may soon be history.

That was my understanding.

It seems their voters send them a message of "Look at Indiana RINOs" because they quickly changed their minds.

If so, this is great news. Hopefully the SC GOP can send some real America-first candidates to contend for the redistricted seats, not more RINOs.

How many Republican seats would this add? My last count was 11 between, Texas, Florida, Alabama, and Louisiana.

Thune and Senate GOP are not hiding the fact that they are deliberately thwarting the will of the voters.

They are instituting....

Pro Forma sessions to stop Trump from making recess appointments.

Blue Slip tradition to stop Trump from filling judicial positions.

Zombie Filibuster to stop Trump from securing elections.

They have also left Chuck Schumer’s handpicked Parliamentarian in place which is stopping many of Trump’s policies from advancing in the Senate.

We need to remove the RINOs for the last half of Trump’s term. We’ve made a good start on it in the primaries thus far, but Cornyn needs to lose next week. Democrats do not need control of the Senate ever again. If we lose the Senate we soon lose the Supreme court. We then lose our nation.

We need a greater majority in the House and we can do that by 1) removing the racist districts for the short term and 2) making sure the 2030 census is not corrupted for the long term. Democrats never need to be in control of the House again.
