KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WOWK) – A late-night road rage incident ended in a deadly shooting along Greenbrier Street in Charleston.
According to a press release from the Charleston Police Department, a call came in at 10:45 p.m. of a reported shooting near the intersection of Greenbrier Street and Deitrick Boulevard.
During the preliminary investigation, police say that William Ray Hinerman, 63, of Charleston, was driving aggressively before the incident. Investigators believe the driver of a second vehicle pulled over in an attempt to avoid confrontation.
According to statements and evidence gathered at the scene, Hinerman allegedly made a U-turn, returned to the location, exited his vehicle, and approached the other driver. During the confrontation, Hinerman allegedly struck the other driver multiple times.
The second driver then pulled out a gun and shot Hinerman once in the abdomen. Hinerman was transported to a local hospital, where he died.
Following the shooting, the driver immediately contacted 911, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.

So much for self control logic and all other normal things.
Another notch in a DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM badge.
Another Darwin Award winner. Culling out the really stupid from our midst.
Wasn’t the first time for this sort of behavior but it will be the last.
On the face of it, it sounds like a good shoot.
Well,at least it’s got a happy ending.
The obituary makes me wonder if their is more to the story.

Recently retired from the FBI.
Not so recently retired. He retired in 2016, ten years ago.
AT this link he describes his career:
https://eberly.wvu.edu/news-events/eberly-news/2017/11/20/shape-your-destiny-bill-hinerman
“””After active military duty, he became Chief Deputy Clerk for both the Northern and Southern U.S. District Courts. Bill ended his illustrious career upon his retirement as Unit Chief for the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center.”””
Also worked for the DOJ.
Just maybe he was recently purged from the Govt by Trump.
This is really unbelievable. I looked up Hinerman’s obituary. Best I can tell, he’s a retired lawyer who worked for the Federal government.
I’ve been sad lately. Seems like lots of bad news everywhere you look. Everybody’s angry all the time, getting in stupid, meaningless arguments. I’ve allowed myself to be embroiled in two stupid, pointless arguments this past week because this is my position, and I need to be right. Nobody ever wants to yield or walk away.
I’d say the solution to this sort of thing is to arm everyone, and have them open carry, like the Wild West. But then, that sort of goes on in the inner cities now, and they just shoot each other. No restraint there. I don’t know what the answer is. All I know is I keep running into angry people.
This guy puts it very well. There are some among us who simply don’t get it...and,all too often, they pay the price.
I,as a juror in the shooters trial, would not only vote not guilty but would vote to award him every nickel the dead guy had left behind. Life insurance...house...retirement accounts...everything!
This guy of all guys should have known what can happen when you spontaneously go hard guy with strangers. I’m guessing he was used to leaning on the badge all his life. This explains his advanced age for such adolescent behavior.
Yes,I’ve seen that in many youtube videos. It sounds like good advice. I live in a state where politicians, cops and judges don’t even try to hide their complete contempt for the 2nd Amendment. If I ever did that here I’d be tried for 1st degree murder and various gun crimes. And in the county where I live (which Kommie Harris carried by about 75%/20%) I’d be found guilty...regardless of what evidence my lawyer presented.
> Nobody ever wants to yield or walk away. <
Many years ago I went to a demonstration given by a Japanese karate master. He demonstrated various blocks and punches. How to defend against this, how to defend against that.
Then he said, “I will now share with you the most powerful defense of them all.”
He hesitated for a moment for effect.
“The most powerful defense is not to be there.”
Although I never served as one — and although I have great respect for most of those who do — I was raised in a family of LEO’s (father; mother; brother; two close cousins) and this is the advice my late Dad gave to me in the late 1990s. decades after he retired from the force.
